AI Sound Effect Generator: Describe a Sound, Get the SFX

The VdoBloom AI sound effect generator turns a written description into a finished audio file. Type something like "a heavy wooden door creaks open, then slams shut" and you get a ready-to-use one-shot, or describe "gentle rain on a tin roof with distant thunder" and get a longer ambience bed or seamless loop. Every result downloads as an MP3.

Is it free? New accounts get 10 free credits, enough to try both engines several times. A short effect costs 1 credit per second or less (a 5-second effect is 4 credits, a full 10-second effect is 8), and a loop or ambience request costs 1 credit and returns two variations. After that, 300 credits are $19.50 as a one-time pack that never expires, or $15 a month on a plan.

It is built for video editors, YouTubers and short-form creators who need a specific sound they cannot find in a library, for game and app makers prototyping UI and gameplay audio, and for podcasters who want a transition or a room tone in seconds.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose the engine

Pick Short effect for 1 to 10 second one-shots such as hits, footsteps, doors and whooshes, or Loops & ambience for longer beds and loopable backgrounds.

  2. 2

    Describe the sound

Write what you want to hear in plain English, up to 500 characters. Name the source, the material, the space and the action, for example "metal tray dropped on a tiled kitchen floor".

  3. 3

Set length, or loop, tempo and key

For a short effect, drag the length slider from 1 to 10 seconds. For loops and ambience, switch on Seamless loop and optionally set a BPM (1 to 300) and a musical key so the sound sits under your music.

  4. 4

    Generate and download

The price is shown before you start. Results appear in the panel, download as MP3, and are saved to My Creations so you can come back to them later.

Why use this tool

  • Two engines for two jobs

Mirelo SFX makes precise short one-shots you set to the second. Suno Sounds makes longer textures, ambience and loops, with two variations per request to choose from.

  • Seamless loops

Switch on Seamless loop for rain, wind, crowd, engine hum or sci-fi drones that need to repeat under a scene without an audible seam.

  • Tempo and key control

Give loops a BPM and one of 24 major or minor keys so a riser, pulse or musical texture lines up with the track it plays under.

  • Priced by what you make

Short effects are billed by length, so a 1-second click costs 1 credit and a 10-second effect costs 8. Loops are a flat 1 credit per request.

  • Automatic refunds

If a generation fails, the credits for that run go back to your balance automatically.

  • Works with the rest of your project

Drop the MP3 into any editor, or pair it with VdoBloom music, voiceover and video tools to finish a whole clip in one place.

Which engine should you use?

Both engines start from a text prompt. The difference is the kind of sound they are good at and how you control the result.

How much does an AI sound effect cost?

Short effects are priced at 0.8 credits per second of output, rounded up to a whole credit. Loops and ambience are always 1 credit. These are the exact prices the tool quotes before you generate:

Is the AI sound effect generator free?

You can start for free: every new account gets 10 credits on sign-up, which covers ten loop requests, ten 1-second effects or a couple of 5-second effects. There is no daily free allowance after that. Credits from one-time packs never expire, so a small pack lasts as long as you need it, while subscription credits refresh each billing cycle.

How to write a sound effect prompt that works

The engines respond to concrete, physical descriptions. A one-word prompt like "explosion" works, but you get far more control by describing what is making the sound and where it happens.

  • Name the source and the material: "glass bottle", "wooden crate", "leather boots on gravel".
  • Describe the action and its order: "creaks open slowly, then slams shut".
  • Add the space: "in a small tiled bathroom", "in an empty concrete parking garage", "outdoors in an open field".
  • Give distance and intensity: "distant", "close-up", "soft", "violent".
  • Keep one idea per prompt for one-shots; layer several effects later in your editor.
  • For loops, describe a steady texture ("constant light rain, no thunder") so the loop has nothing that obviously repeats.
  • Set the length to match the action: a footstep needs 1 second, a passing car needs 4 to 6.

What you can make with it

Creators use generated sound effects anywhere a stock library comes up short or a very specific sound is needed.

  • Video and short-form: whooshes for cuts, risers before a reveal, impacts on text, foley for AI-generated clips that came out silent.
  • Games and apps: UI clicks, pickups, menu sounds, creature noises and looping level ambience with a set tempo.
  • Podcasts and audiobooks: transitions, room tone, doors, phones and weather to set a scene.
  • Film and animation: background beds such as city traffic, forest at night or a busy cafe.
  • Music production: textures, drones and loops in a chosen key and BPM to layer under a track.

Limits to know before you start

Short effects run from 1 to 10 seconds; for anything longer, use the Loops & ambience engine or chain several effects in your editor. Prompts are limited to 500 characters and need at least 3. Loop and ambience length is set by the engine rather than a slider. Speech is not what this tool is for: for spoken lines use text to speech, and for a full song with vocals use the music generator. Prompts go through content moderation before anything is generated.

Frequently asked questions

How do I generate a sound effect with AI?

Open the Sound Effects tool, pick Short effect or Loops & ambience, describe the sound in plain English and press Generate Sound. The result appears in the panel when it is ready, downloads as an MP3 and is saved to My Creations.

Is there a free AI sound effect generator?

VdoBloom gives every new account 10 free credits. A loop costs 1 credit and a short effect costs 1 to 8 credits depending on length, so you can make several sound effects before paying anything.

How long can an AI sound effect be?

Short effects are 1 to 10 seconds, set with a slider. Longer textures and ambience beds come from the Loops & ambience engine, whose output length is set by the engine.

Can I make a seamless loop?

Yes. Choose Loops & ambience and switch on Seamless loop. You can also give the loop a BPM and a musical key so it fits under a piece of music.

What format are the sound effects in?

Every result downloads as an MP3, which imports into Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut, Final Cut, game engines and podcast editors.

How many variations do I get?

Loops & ambience returns two variations per request for 1 credit. Short effects return one effect per run, so generate again or reword the prompt for alternatives.

Can I use the sound effects in my YouTube videos?

Sound effects you generate are saved to your account for use in your projects. How you can use generated content is set out in the VdoBloom Terms of Service, so check them for your specific use.

Why does my sound effect not match the prompt?

Vague prompts give vague results. Name the material, the action and the space, keep one sound per prompt and match the length to the action. If a run fails outright, its credits are refunded automatically.

Can it add sound to a silent video?

This tool generates standalone sound files from text. Download the MP3 and place it on your video timeline, or build the full soundtrack with the music generator and text to speech.
