Video to Prompt: Reverse-Engineer Any Video Into an AI Generation Prompt
The VdoBloom Video to Prompt tool is an AI tool that watches a video and writes the prompt that would recreate it. Upload any clip and the AI reads it shot by shot (the people and their wardrobe, gestures and blocking, camera moves, lighting and pacing), then outputs one copy-paste-ready generation prompt you can use in VdoBloom's video tools or any other AI video generator such as Seedance, Kling, Veo or Wan.
Is it free? New accounts get 10 free credits, and analysing a clip of up to one minute costs 10 credits, so your first video-to-prompt run is free. After that, analysis is 6 credits per started minute of source video (minimum 10), and each correction costs 5 credits. A one-time Lite pack of 300 credits costs $19.50 and covers 30 one-minute analyses; one-time credits never expire. If the analysis fails, the credits are refunded automatically.
It solves the hardest part of AI video: describing what you see in the language video models respond to. Creators use it to recreate the look of a viral clip in their niche, marketers to brief an ad in the style of a reference, and filmmakers to turn a mood reference into a shot list. If the AI misreads a detail, tell it what was wrong: it re-examines the frames and revises the prompt.

Video to Prompt: any clip reverse-engineered into a copy-paste generation prompt
How it works
- 1
Upload the reference video
Any clip up to 5 minutes and 500 MB: an ad you admire, a viral video in your niche, or footage of your own. The credit cost appears as soon as the length is known.
- 2
Set the target length and language
Leave target duration on "Same as source", or enter 1 to 600 seconds and the shot timings are scaled to fit. Choose the prompt language: English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese or Arabic.
- 3
Pick the output format
Shot-by-shot timing (on by default) writes a compact timed shot list that Seedance follows well. Turn it off for a fuller block per shot with subjects, wardrobe, action, background, camera, lighting and ambient sound.
- 4
Let the AI read it shot by shot
The video is split at its cuts, key frames from each shot are analysed, and the AI checks its reading shot by shot before writing the prompt. Analysis takes 1–3 minutes.
- 5
Copy it, use it, or correct it
Copy the prompt, send it straight to VdoBloom Studio, or describe a mistake ("her jacket is red, not orange") and the AI re-checks the frames and rewrites only what needs fixing.
Why use this tool
Scene detection, not a single snapshot
The tool finds each cut in your video and samples frames from every shot (up to 30 frames in total), so multi-shot edits are described as multi-shot prompts.
Timed shot lists
Output can be a timed list like "[0-3s] slow push-in: the bride in the ivory lace gown turns to camera", with one camera move and one action per line, and the same short description of each person repeated so identity holds across cuts.
Corrections that look again
Revisions re-send the stored frames to the vision model, so a fix is checked against the actual video rather than guessed. 5 credits per revision.
Scale to any target length
Recreating a 40-second ad as a 10-second clip? Set the target duration and the shot timings shrink proportionally, keeping the original rhythm.
Prompts in 8 languages
Write the prompt in English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese or Arabic.
Straight into Studio
One click hands the prompt to VdoBloom Studio, where you can generate the video with the model of your choice.
What is a video to prompt generator?
A video to prompt generator reverses the usual AI video workflow. Normally you write a prompt and hope the model produces a certain look. Here you show the AI a video that already has the look, and it writes the prompt: what is in each shot, how the camera moves, how it is lit, and how long each beat lasts.
Video is harder to describe than a still image because motion, pacing and cuts matter as much as what is in the frame. That is why this tool works shot by shot and outputs timing, not just a one-paragraph caption. If you only need a prompt for a single image, Image to Prompt is the faster, cheaper option.
How much does Video to Prompt cost?
You pay per started minute of the source video, with a 10-credit minimum per analysis. The exact cost is shown before you start.
- 10 free credits on sign-up cover one analysis of a clip up to a minute long.
- Trimming your upload to the part you want to recreate keeps the cost at the 10-credit minimum and makes the prompt more focused.
- Failed analyses are refunded in full.
| Source video length | Credits |
|---|---|
| Up to 1 minute | 10 |
| Up to 2 minutes | 12 |
| Up to 3 minutes | 18 |
| Up to 4 minutes | 24 |
| Up to 5 minutes (maximum) | 30 |
| Each correction (revision) | 5 |
What the generated prompt describes
Each prompt is built from what is visible in the frames. It covers:
| Element | What you get |
|---|---|
| Scene header | Location, time of day, lighting, fixed background elements, grade, grain and aspect ratio |
| Shots and timing | Every shot with start and end seconds, scaled to your target duration |
| Subjects and wardrobe | Who is in frame, described consistently across cuts (role plus key clothing) |
| Action | Gestures, movement and blocking, one action per segment |
| Camera | Shot size and movement: push-in, pan, orbit, handheld, static, cuts |
| Special techniques | An "IMPORTANT" line with do and do-not phrasing when a shot uses an unusual technique |
| Sound and clean-up | A sound design line, plus "no text, no subtitles, no logos, no watermarks" |
Use cases
People use Video to Prompt to save the trial and error of describing a reference by hand:
- Recreate the style of a viral short in your niche with your own subject or product.
- Turn a competitor-style ad reference into a brief for an original ad.
- Build a shot list from a music video, trailer or mood reference for a storyboard.
- Learn prompt writing by seeing how camera moves and lighting are phrased for video models.
- Re-generate your own older footage in a new model, or extend a series with a consistent look.
- Hand a timed prompt to Seedance-based tools, which follow segment-by-segment timing well.
Tips for better prompts
A few habits make the output closer to the source:
- Upload only the segment you want to recreate; short references produce tighter, more accurate prompts.
- Prefer clips with clear shots and readable cuts over fast montages with dozens of edits.
- Set a target duration that matches the model you will use, so the shot timings fit its clip length.
- Keep shot-by-shot timing on for Seedance; turn it off when you want a richer, descriptive prompt for other models.
- Use a correction rather than re-running the analysis when only one detail is wrong; it is cheaper and keeps the rest of the prompt intact.
Limits and content rules
Source videos can be up to 5 minutes and 500 MB, and you upload a file (there is no paste-a-link import). The prompt describes people by role, appearance and wardrobe and does not instruct a model to copy a real person's face, so recreations use new or your own subjects. Frames showing minors, sexual content or graphic violence are refused, and the credits are returned. A prompt gets you close to a reference, not a frame-perfect copy: every video model interprets text differently, so expect to iterate.
Frequently asked questions
What does a video-to-prompt tool actually do?
It reverses the usual AI video workflow: instead of writing a prompt and hoping for a certain look, you show the AI a video that already has the look, and it writes the prompt. The output describes the subjects, wardrobe, actions, camera work, lighting and timing in generation-ready language you can paste into VdoBloom's text-to-video tools or any other AI video model.
Is there a free video to prompt generator?
Every new VdoBloom account gets 10 free credits, and analysing a video up to one minute long costs 10 credits, so your first run is free. Longer clips cost 6 credits per started minute, up to 30 credits for a 5-minute video.
How do I get the prompt from a video?
Upload the clip to Video to Prompt, optionally set a target duration and output language, and click Generate Prompt. After 1–3 minutes you get one detailed prompt with a scene header and timed shots, which you can copy, correct or send to VdoBloom Studio.
Can I use the prompt in Seedance, Kling, Veo or Wan?
Yes. The prompt is plain text written for AI video models. The default timed shot-list format is tuned for Seedance, and the fuller per-shot format works well when pasted into other generators such as Kling, Veo or Wan.
How detailed is the generated prompt?
The AI works shot by shot, capturing who is in frame and what they wear, their gestures and movement, how the camera pushes, pans or cuts, and the lighting and mood of each scene, with start and end seconds for each shot. It is one comprehensive prompt rather than a vague summary.
What if the AI gets a detail wrong?
Use the correction box: describe what it misread, such as a colour, an action or a camera move, and the AI re-examines the actual frames and revises only that part. Each revision costs 5 credits, so you can iterate without re-running the full analysis.
How long can the video be?
Up to 5 minutes and 500 MB. Short references of under a minute work best and cost the 10-credit minimum.
Can it write the prompt in another language?
Yes. Choose English, Hindi, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese or Arabic before you generate.
Can I paste a YouTube or TikTok link?
Not at the moment. Download the clip you have the rights to use and upload the file, ideally trimmed to the section you want to recreate.
What is the difference between video to prompt and image to prompt?
Image to Prompt describes a single still for image models. Video to Prompt splits a clip into shots and adds motion, camera movement, pacing and timing, which is what video models need. Use Image to Prompt for a photo and Video to Prompt for footage.
