AI Video Upscaler: Upscale Video to 1080p or 4K Online
VdoBloom's AI video upscaler raises the resolution of a video and rebuilds the detail that plain resizing loses. Upload a clip, choose the target size and download a sharper 1080p or 4K MP4. It runs in the browser with Topaz AI upscaling, so there is no software to install.
Is it free? New accounts get 10 free credits with no card, enough for a short Topaz Proteus job. A 10-second 720p clip upscaled to 1080p costs 7 credits. Topaz Proteus starts at 4 credits per job. Topaz Video Upscale is priced per second of video, from a 30-credit minimum. The cost is calculated from your actual clip and shown before you start. The Lite plan is 300 credits for $15 a month, or $19.50 as a one-time pack that never expires.
There are two Topaz engines on the tab. Topaz Proteus targets 1080p or 4K and also cleans noise, compression artefacts and soft faces, keeping the original frame rate. Topaz Video Upscale multiplies the resolution by 1x, 2x or 4x and takes clips up to 10 minutes long.
It is a common last step for AI-generated clips, most of which render at 720p or 1080p. It also works on phone footage, old recordings, screen captures and compressed downloads that need to look clean on a big screen or meet a platform's resolution requirement.
How it works
- 1
Upload your video
Add an MP4 or other common video file: up to 500 MB and 60 seconds for Topaz Proteus, or up to 200 MB and 10 minutes for Topaz Video Upscale. Trim or compress long files first if needed.
- 2
Choose an engine
Topaz Proteus for a fixed 1080p or 4K output with clean-up of noise, compression and faces. Topaz Video Upscale to multiply the resolution by 1x, 2x or 4x, or for clips longer than a minute.
- 3
Pick the target
With Proteus, select 1080p or 4K. With Topaz Video Upscale, select the factor: 2x turns 1080p into 2160p (4K), and 4x turns 540p into 2160p. The credit cost is worked out from your clip's real length and shown before you start.
- 4
Upscale
Processing runs frame by frame and usually takes a few minutes, longer for long or high-resolution clips. If a job fails, its credits are refunded.
- 5
Compare and download
Check the result against the original, then download the high-resolution MP4 for YouTube, ads, store listings or a large display.
Why use this tool
Two Topaz AI engines
Topaz Proteus (1080p or 4K target with restoration) and Topaz Video Upscale (1x, 2x or 4x), both in one tab.
Real detail, not stretched pixels
AI upscaling predicts edges, textures and fine structure for each frame, so the bigger video looks sharper instead of softer.
Cleans noise and compression
Proteus also repairs blocky compression, grain and soft faces while it upscales, which helps old and re-downloaded footage.
Original frame rate kept
Proteus keeps the source frame rate (sources up to 60 fps), so motion looks the same as before, only sharper.
Long clips supported
Topaz Video Upscale accepts clips up to 10 minutes, so full ads, tutorials and vlogs can be upscaled in one job.
Pay for what you process
Cost scales with clip length and size, starts at 4 credits on Proteus, and is shown before you commit. One-time credits never expire.
Which video upscaler engine should you use?
Both engines are Topaz AI models. They differ in how you set the output, how long a clip they accept and how they are priced.
| Topaz Proteus | Topaz Video Upscale | |
|---|---|---|
| Output setting | Target 1080p or 4K | 1x, 2x or 4x the source |
| Also fixes | Noise, compression artefacts, soft faces | Upscaling only |
| Frame rate | Keeps the source fps (up to 60 fps) | No frame-rate setting |
| Longest clip | 60 seconds | 10 minutes |
| Largest file | 500 MB | 200 MB |
| Pricing | By pixels processed, from 4 credits per job | 3.2 credits per second at 1x or 2x, 5.6 at 4x, 30-credit minimum |
| Best for | AI clips, short social videos, restoring soft footage | Long videos and exact 2x or 4x enlargements |
How much does it cost to upscale a video?
Proteus is priced by how many pixels it has to process. That depends on clip length, frame rate, source size and how far it has to scale. A 1080p source going to 4K needs only a 2x pass, so it can cost less than a 720p source going to 4K, which needs 4x. These examples are taken directly from the pricing code.
| Topaz Proteus job | Credits |
|---|---|
| 5 s, 720p at 24 fps → 1080p | 4 |
| 10 s, 720p at 24 fps → 1080p | 7 |
| 10 s, 360p at 24 fps → 1080p | 7 |
| 5 s, 720p at 24 fps → 4K | 14 |
| 10 s, 1080p at 30 fps → 4K | 18 |
| 10 s, 720p at 24 fps → 4K | 24 |
| 30 s, 720p at 30 fps → 4K | 93 |
| 60 s, 720p at 30 fps → 4K | 182 |

Topaz Video Upscale cost by clip length
Topaz Video Upscale is billed on the length the server measures, not on file size. A 1x or 2x job costs 3.2 credits per second and a 4x job 5.6, with a 30-credit minimum per job.
| Clip length | 2x | 4x |
|---|---|---|
| 5 seconds | 30 (minimum) | 30 (minimum) |
| 10 seconds | 32 | 56 |
| 30 seconds | 96 | 168 |
| 60 seconds | 192 | 336 |
Can you upscale a video to 4K for free?
Partly. The 10 free credits every new account receives cover a short Proteus job: a 5-second 720p clip upscaled to 4K costs 14 credits, but the same clip to 1080p costs 4. A 10-second 1080p clip at 30 fps upscaled to 4K costs 18 credits, so for 4K most people need a paid pack. The Lite plan is 300 credits for $15 a month or $19.50 one-time, which covers dozens of short 4K upscales.
What upscaling can and cannot fix
AI upscaling makes good footage sharper and bigger. It cannot recover what the camera never captured. The cleaner the source, the better the result.
- Works well: AI-generated clips, 720p or 1080p phone video, compressed social downloads, screen recordings, older digital footage.
- Improves but has limits: heavy motion blur, very low light, tiny faces in wide shots.
- Cannot fix: out-of-focus footage, missing frames, or detail that was never in the image, such as a licence plate too small to read.
- Neither engine adds frame interpolation or slow motion. Proteus keeps the source frame rate.
- Trim to the part you need before upscaling. Cost scales with length, and Proteus accepts up to 60 seconds.

Upscaling AI-generated videos
Many AI video models render at 720p or 1080p to keep generation fast and affordable. A common workflow is to generate at 720p on a model such as Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0 Omni or Wan 3.0, choose the take you like, and upscale only that one to 4K. It usually costs fewer credits than rendering every attempt at the highest resolution.

Frequently asked questions
What is an AI video upscaler?
An AI video upscaler increases a video's resolution and uses a trained model to predict the detail each frame should have. Plain resizing stretches pixels and looks soft. AI upscaling adds sharper edges and texture, so a 720p or 1080p clip can be delivered at 1080p or 4K.
How do I upscale a video to 4K?
Open the AI Video Upscaler tab and upload the clip. Then choose Topaz Proteus with the 4K target, or Topaz Video Upscale with a factor that reaches 2160p (2x from 1080p, 4x from 540p). Check the credit cost and start. The 4K MP4 is ready to download when processing finishes.
Is there a free AI video upscaler?
VdoBloom gives every new account 10 free credits with no card. A short Topaz Proteus job fits inside that: a 10-second 720p clip to 1080p costs 7 credits. Longer clips and 4K output usually need a paid pack. The Lite plan is 300 credits for $15 a month or $19.50 one-time.
How much does it cost to upscale a video?
Topaz Proteus is priced by pixels processed and starts at 4 credits. For example, 10 seconds of 720p to 4K costs 24 credits, and 10 seconds of 1080p at 30 fps to 4K costs 18. Topaz Video Upscale costs 3.2 credits per second at 2x and 5.6 at 4x, with a 30-credit minimum. The exact cost shows before you start.
Does AI upscaling actually add detail?
It adds plausible detail. The model predicts what edges and textures should look like at the higher resolution, so the result looks sharper than a simple resize. It cannot recover information that was never captured, such as text too small to read in the source.
Can I upscale AI-generated videos?
Yes. Generate at 720p or 1080p on any VdoBloom video model, pick the best take, then upscale that clip to 4K. You spend fewer credits than rendering every attempt at maximum resolution.
How long can the video be?
Topaz Proteus accepts clips up to 60 seconds and 500 MB, at up to 60 fps. Topaz Video Upscale accepts clips up to 10 minutes and 200 MB. Trim or compress longer files first.
Will upscaling change the frame rate or the look of my video?
Neither engine adds frame interpolation, slow motion or a new style. Proteus keeps the source frame rate exactly. Proteus does clean up noise, compression blocks and soft faces as part of the job, which you will notice on low-quality sources.
Do I need to install software?
No. Upscaling runs on VdoBloom's servers. You upload in the browser and download the result, on desktop or phone.
Can I upscale old videos?
Yes. Older digital recordings and low-resolution files sharpen noticeably, especially with Proteus, which also reduces grain and compression artefacts. Results depend on the source. Footage that was out of focus or badly blurred improves less.
