Image to Prompt Generator: Turn Any Photo into a Detailed AI Prompt
Image to Prompt is an AI tool that looks at a picture and writes the text prompt that describes it. Upload a JPEG, PNG or WebP (up to 10 MB) and a vision model returns a detailed prompt covering the subject, clothing, expression, pose, framing, lighting, colours, background and any visible text. Each prompt costs 6 credits. New accounts get 10 free credits, enough to try it once, and failed or refused runs are refunded automatically.
It is built for people who see an image they like and want to make more like it: AI artists studying how a look turns into words, marketers rebuilding a reference shot with their own product, and anyone who finds it easier to show an image than to describe it. The prompt is written for VdoBloom’s own Image Edit and text-to-image tools, and one click carries it straight into Image Edit.
Every run is saved to My Creations with the reference image next to the prompt, so you can build a personal library of prompts you can reuse later.

How it works
- 1
Upload the reference image
Tap or drag in a JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB. AI art, photos, product shots and illustrations all work.
- 2
Generate the prompt
Press Generate prompt. A vision model reads the image and writes a structured description in a few seconds.
- 3
Copy it or continue in Image Edit
Copy the text, or press Continue in Image Edit to open the editor with the prompt already filled in as the edit instruction.
- 4
Change one detail and generate
Swap the subject, outfit, setting or time of day in the prompt and generate your own version in the same look.
Why use this tool
Detailed, structured output
Prompts list who or what is in the frame, the pose and gaze, the camera framing, clothing and props, lighting, colour palette and background, plus any readable text, so nothing important is left to chance.
One click into Image Edit
The Continue in Image Edit button opens the editor with the prompt pre-filled, so the step from reference to new image takes seconds.
Saved to My Creations
Each prompt is stored with its reference image, which makes it easy to come back to a look weeks later.
Automatic refunds
If the vision model fails or refuses an image, the 6 credits go back to your balance without a support ticket.
Pay per prompt
No subscription is needed. One-time credit packs never expire, so occasional use costs only what you run.
What is an image to prompt generator?
An image to prompt generator, sometimes called a photo to prompt or reverse prompt tool, works backwards from a picture to the words that could produce it. Text-to-image models turn a prompt into pixels; this tool turns pixels back into a prompt. The result is a description written in the vocabulary image models respond to: shot type, lens feel, lighting direction, materials, mood and style.
People use it for two reasons. The first is practical: recreating or adapting a reference image without spending twenty minutes guessing the right words. The second is learning: comparing an image with its written prompt is one of the quickest ways to see which words drive which visual effect.
Is Image to Prompt free?
You can try it free. Every new VdoBloom account receives 10 free credits, and one prompt costs 6 credits, so your first prompt costs nothing. After that you pay per prompt from a credit balance, and there is nothing to watermark because the output is plain text.
The Lite pack is 300 credits for $19.50 as a one-time purchase, or $15 a month as a subscription. One-time credits never expire; subscription credits reset each billing cycle. The same balance works across every VdoBloom image, video and audio tool.
| What you run | Credits | With 10 free credits | With Lite (300 credits) |
|---|---|---|---|
| One image to prompt | 6 | 1 prompt | 50 prompts |
| A failed or refused run | 0 (refunded) | No charge | No charge |
| Copying or re-reading a saved prompt | 0 | Free | Free |
What the generated prompt describes
The prompt is written as dense, specific description rather than a short list of tags. Here is what it covers and why each part matters when you generate again.
| Element | What it captures | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Subject | Who or what is shown, apparent age, build, hair, expression | Keeps the main subject recognisable in a new render |
| Pose and gaze | Body position, hand placement, where the eyes point | Controls the feel of the shot more than most style words |
| Framing | Close-up, medium or wide shot, camera angle, facing direction | Recreates the composition instead of a random crop |
| Clothing and props | Garments, colours, materials, objects held | Lets you swap one item while keeping the rest |
| Lighting and colour | Light source, softness, contrast, palette | The main driver of mood and style |
| Background and text | Setting, depth, any readable signs or labels | Image models can render short text when it is spelled out |
Which tool to use after you have the prompt
The prompt is tuned for VdoBloom’s Image Edit, where it works as an edit instruction on top of your own image. You can also paste it into the text-to-image generator to create a fresh picture in the same style. It can be pasted into other AI image apps too, but it is not formatted for any of their special syntax, so results there may differ.
| Goal | Where to paste the prompt | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Restyle your own photo to match the reference | Image Edit | Upload your photo, paste the prompt as the edit instruction |
| Make a brand-new image in the same look | Text to Image | Paste the prompt, replace the subject with yours |
| Turn the result into a clip | Image to Video | Use the finished image as the first frame |
| Get a prompt from a video instead | Video to Prompt | Upload the clip; it reads the key frames |

Who uses image to prompt
Most people arrive with a single reference image and a deadline. These are the common cases.
- AI artists: reverse-engineer a style you admire, then keep the style words and change the subject.
- Marketers and ecommerce sellers: rebuild a competitor-style product shot or lifestyle scene around your own product.
- Social media creators: match the look of a trending photo format without copying the photo itself.
- Designers: turn a moodboard image into a written brief for a client or a teammate.
- Prompt learners: compare image and prompt side by side to learn which words control lighting, lens feel and composition.
- Writers and game masters: get a vivid written description of a scene or character from concept art.
Tips for better prompts from images
The quality of the prompt follows the quality of the reference. A few habits make a clear difference.
- Use a sharp, well-lit image at a decent resolution. Fine detail such as fabric texture and light direction is easier to read.
- Pick images with one clear look. Collages and screenshots that mix several styles give vaguer prompts.
- Crop out interface elements, watermarks and captions you do not want described.
- Edit the prompt before generating. Delete details you do not need and keep the style and lighting words, which carry the look.
- Change one thing at a time when you iterate, so you can see which words cause which change.
- Save prompts you like. My Creations keeps every run with its image, so a good prompt is easy to find again.
Limits: what image to prompt cannot do
A prompt describes an image; it does not copy it. Generation involves randomness, so regenerating from the prompt gives a clearly similar image rather than a pixel-identical one. Exact faces of real people cannot be reproduced from a description alone; for that, use your own photo in Image Edit.
Each run reads one image. There is no batch upload, no URL import and no option to choose the prompt language or a target model format. Images that break the content policy are refused and refunded. Only upload images you have the right to use.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get a prompt from an image?
Open Image to Prompt, upload a JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB and press Generate prompt. A vision model writes a detailed text prompt describing the subject, pose, framing, clothing, lighting, colours and background. Copy it, or press Continue in Image Edit to open the editor with the prompt filled in.
Is the image to prompt generator free?
Your first prompt is free. New accounts get 10 free credits and each prompt costs 6 credits. After that, prompts are paid from a credit balance; the Lite pack is 300 credits (50 prompts) for $19.50 one-time, and one-time credits never expire.
Can ChatGPT or Gemini turn an image into a prompt?
General chat assistants can describe an image if you ask, but you have to write the request and reformat the answer yourself. Image to Prompt is a single-purpose tool: one upload returns a prompt already structured for image generation, saved with its reference and one click away from Image Edit.
Will the prompt work in Midjourney, Stable Diffusion or DALL·E?
The prompt is plain descriptive English, so you can paste it anywhere. It is tuned for VdoBloom’s Image Edit and text-to-image tools, though, and does not use other apps’ special parameters, so results in other tools may differ from what you expect.
How accurate is an AI-generated prompt?
It reliably captures the describable parts of an image: subject, framing, clothing, lighting, palette and setting. Regenerating from it produces a clearly similar image, not an identical copy, because image generation is random and some details (an exact face, a specific brand logo) cannot be fully expressed in words.
What image formats and sizes can I upload?
JPEG, PNG and WebP files up to 10 MB. Larger, sharper images give more detailed prompts. One image is processed per run.
What happens if the AI refuses my image?
If the vision model fails or declines the image on safety grounds, the run is marked failed and your 6 credits are refunded automatically. Images that break the content policy will not produce a prompt.
Is image to prompt the same as reverse image search?
No. Reverse image search finds where a picture appears online. Image to prompt writes a description you can use to generate new images in a similar style. It does not search the web or tell you who made the original.
Can I edit the prompt before using it?
Yes. Copy the text and change anything: the subject, outfit, location or lighting. The usual workflow is to keep the style and lighting words, which carry the look, and replace the subject with your own.
Where are my generated prompts saved?
Each run is saved to My Creations with the reference image and the generated prompt side by side, so you can copy it again later without paying twice.
