AI T-Shirt Design Generator: Print-Ready Graphics on a Transparent Background

VdoBloom’s AI t-shirt design generator turns a short description into a shirt graphic on a real transparent background, with your own words printed exactly as you type them. Pick a style such as vintage, retro sunset or streetwear, limit the design to one, two or three flat ink colors, and download a PNG you can drop onto a mockup, a print-on-demand listing or a screen-printing order.

Is it free? You get 10 free credits when you sign up, enough for two designs. After that each design costs 5 credits. The Lite pack is 300 credits for $19.50 one-time, which makes 60 designs, and one-time pack credits never expire. Monthly plans are there if you prefer them, not required.

It is made for print-on-demand sellers testing new niches, small brands and bands making merch, teams and families making event shirts, and anyone who wants a custom tee without hiring a designer for every idea.

How it works

  1. 1

    Describe the graphic

Write the main subject in up to 300 characters, for example “a cat surfing a giant wave”. One clear subject prints better than a busy scene.

  2. 2

    Pick a style and colors

Choose from vintage, retro sunset, typography, mascot, kawaii, streetwear or line art, then 1, 2 or 3 flat ink colors. Surprise me picks a random style and palette.

  3. 3

    Add your text (optional)

Type up to 40 characters, such as a slogan, team name or date. It is placed in the design and spelled exactly as written, with no extra words.

  4. 4

    Create and download the PNG

You get a centred, square 2K graphic with a transparent background and no garment or mockup baked in. It is also saved to My Creations.

Why use this tool

  • Real transparent background

The PNG has a true alpha channel, not a white box, so it sits cleanly on any shirt color.

  • Exact text

Slogans and names go in their own field and are reproduced character for character.

  • Spot-color palettes

Limit the design to 1, 2 or 3 flat colors, which keeps screen-printing simple and the look bold.

  • Seven print styles

Vintage, retro sunset, typography, mascot, kawaii, streetwear and line art, each written for print.

  • Print-first output

Crisp edges, a centred isolated graphic, no watermark, no mockup and no shirt in the file.

  • One price per design

Every design is 5 credits on Qwen Image 2.1, shown before you press Create.

Which t-shirt design styles can I make?

Each style carries its own print look into the prompt, so a vintage design comes back with worn screen-print texture while a typography design makes the lettering the hero.

How much does an AI t-shirt design cost?

One design is one image at 5 credits. If a design fails, the credits are refunded automatically. What common jobs cost:

  • Lite: 300 credits for $19.50 one-time, or $15 a month as a subscription.
  • One-time pack credits never expire. Subscription credits reset each billing cycle.
  • At Lite one-time pricing a design works out to about 33 cents.

Why a transparent PNG and limited colors matter for printing

Most general image generators return a picture with a background and photographic shading. On a shirt that background prints as a box, and soft gradients are hard to screen-print. This tool asks for an isolated, centred graphic on a transparent background with flat spot colors and crisp edges, which is what print shops and print-on-demand uploaders expect.

Choosing 1, 2 or 3 colors also keeps costs down if you screen-print, because each ink color is usually a separate screen. For direct-to-garment printing the color limit is a style choice rather than a requirement.

Using your designs for print-on-demand and merch

The PNG is square and 2K, with the graphic centred. Upload it to your print-on-demand store or send it to a local printer, then position and scale it on their mockup. Check your platform’s minimum file size before you upload; some ask for larger print files than 2K.

  • Test light and dark shirts: a one-color line-art design in black disappears on a black tee, so pick ink colors that contrast with the garment.
  • Make several styles of the same idea and list the one that gets the most clicks.
  • Keep slogans short. Up to 40 characters reads well across a chest; longer text is better as a separate typography design.
  • Avoid brand names, sports league logos, song lyrics and characters you don’t own. Listings that use them can be taken down.

Tips for better AI shirt designs

A few choices make the first design far more usable.

  • Describe one subject with one action (“a skeleton riding a bicycle”) rather than a full scene.
  • Let the style choice set the look; keep the idea field for the subject.
  • Put the words in the text field, never in the idea field, so they are spelled exactly and nothing extra is added.
  • For a text-only shirt, choose the typography style and give the idea field a theme for decoration, such as “coffee beans and steam”.
  • Use 1 color for a classic screen-print look, 3 colors when the subject needs separation, like a sunset behind a silhouette.

What the t-shirt design generator can’t do

It makes one square graphic per click. There is no shirt mockup preview, no batch generation, no vector (SVG) export and no separated color layers for screen printing; the file is a single PNG. The output is 2K, and the in-tool Upscale button is not offered for this design type. Text is limited to 40 characters. Logos, brands and characters you don’t own are not allowed.

Can I sell shirts with AI-generated designs?

Under the VdoBloom terms you keep ownership of the images you generate, so you can print and sell original designs on shirts, hoodies, mugs or stickers. What you cannot do is put trademarks, brand logos or copyrighted characters in the design; those belong to their owners regardless of how the image was made.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free AI t-shirt design generator?

VdoBloom gives new accounts 10 free credits, enough for two t-shirt designs at 5 credits each. After that the Lite pack is 300 credits for $19.50 one-time, which makes 60 designs, and those credits never expire.

Does the generator make a transparent background?

Yes. Designs come out as PNG files with a real transparent background (alpha channel), centred and isolated, with no shirt or mockup in the image, so they sit cleanly on any garment color.

Can I add my own text to the shirt design?

Yes. Type up to 40 characters in the text field and they are placed in the design exactly as written, with no other words added. Leave it empty for a graphic with no text.

Are the designs print-ready?

They are made for print: flat spot colors, crisp edges, a transparent background and a centred square 2K PNG. Check your print platform’s minimum file size, since some require larger files.

What styles can I choose?

Seven: vintage, retro sunset, typography, mascot, kawaii, streetwear and line art. You can also limit the design to 1, 2 or 3 ink colors.

Can I use the designs for print-on-demand?

Yes. Under VdoBloom’s terms you own what you generate, so you can upload original designs to print-on-demand stores or send them to a printer. Keep brands, logos and characters you don’t own out of your designs.

Which AI model makes the t-shirt designs?

Qwen Image 2.1, which outputs a true transparent PNG. Each design costs 5 credits, and the price is shown before you press Create.

Can I see the design on a shirt mockup?

Not inside this tool. It produces the graphic only, so you can place it on your print platform’s mockup or your own template at the size you want.

How many colors should a t-shirt design have?

For screen printing, fewer colors means fewer screens, so 1 or 2 colors keep costs down. For direct-to-garment printing, color count matters less. The tool lets you choose 1, 2 or 3 flat colors.

Can I make a design from my own photo or logo?

Not in this tool, which works from a written idea. To turn a photo into line art, try Tattoo Design & Stencil or Sketch to Render; to cut a subject out of a photo, use the Background Remover.
