Passport Photo Online: Free Crop and AI Passport Photo Maker
The VdoBloom passport photo maker turns a photo you take at home into a passport or ID photo cut to the exact size for five standards: the USA (2×2 in), India (35×45 mm), EU / Schengen (35×45 mm), the UK (35×45 mm) and Canada (50×70 mm). You get a digital photo at the correct pixel size and a ready-to-print 4×6 in sheet with as many copies as fit at true size.
Is it free? The crop is free and uses no AI: sign in, upload an unedited photo, choose “Just crop my photo”, line the head up with the on-screen guides and download. If your photo needs a plain background, a straighter pose or a blazer, the AI version costs 5 credits with GPT Image 2.5 or 18 credits with Nano Banana Pro, and new accounts start with 10 free credits.
Rules differ by country and some offices, including the US State Department, refuse photos edited with AI or filters. For an official application, use the free crop on an unedited photo and check the current rules linked from the tool. No online tool, including this one, can guarantee that an office will accept a photo.
Examples

USA 2×2 in, white background

4×6 in print sheet

UK 35×45 mm, light grey, blazer
How it works
- 1
Take the photo
Face the camera straight on, in even light, against a plain wall. No hat, both eyes open, mouth closed, shoulders in the frame.
- 2
Choose your country
USA, India, EU / Schengen, UK or Canada. The size, head-size band and background guidance change with the country.
- 3
Crop free, or fix it with AI
Pick “Just crop my photo — no AI, free” for an unedited photo, or generate an AI version with a plain white, off-white, light grey or light blue background and optional collared shirt or dark blazer.
- 4
Line up the head
Guide lines show where the top of the hair and the chin must sit. Use Bigger, Smaller, Up, Down, Left and Right to adjust, then re-crop.
- 5
Download photo and print sheet
Save the single photo at the official size and the 4×6 in print sheet, then upload the photo online or print the sheet at any photo counter.
Why use this tool
Exact sizes for 5 standards
USA 2×2 in, India 35×45 mm, EU / Schengen 35×45 mm, UK 35×45 mm and Canada 50×70 mm, with the head-size band for each.
Free crop with no AI
A pure crop-and-resize of the photo you upload, so the pixels of your face are not changed. Useful where offices refuse edited photos.
4×6 in print sheet
As many copies as fit at true size on standard 4×6 photo paper: six US photos, eight India, EU or UK photos, or three Canada photos, with a small cut gap wherever the paper leaves room.
Head-size guides you can adjust
Lines mark the crown and the chin band from each country’s rules, and six nudge buttons move or resize the crop until the head fits.
Optional AI clean-up
Replaces a busy background with plain white, off-white, light grey or light blue, evens the light and can put you in a collared shirt or dark blazer, without beautifying the face.
Print-ready files
JPEGs at 300 dpi, at the official digital pixel size where one is published and the print size at 300 dpi otherwise.
Passport photo sizes this tool supports
These are the sizes built into the tool, taken from each government’s published photo rules. The tool links the official page for your country next to the result so you can check for changes before you apply.
- The EU / Schengen option follows the 35×45 mm standard used for Schengen visas and most EU passports.
- Other countries and document types (visas outside Schengen, green card, driving licences) are not built in yet. If your document uses one of the sizes above, check its rules before reusing the crop.

Free crop vs. AI passport photo: which should you use?
Both paths end with the same exact-size crop and print sheet. The difference is whether the photo itself is changed before cropping.

How to take a passport photo at home
Most rejected photos fail on lighting, shadows or head position, which no crop can fix later. A few minutes of setup avoids that.
- Stand about half a metre in front of a plain, light wall, and have someone take the photo from about 1–1.5 m away at eye level.
- Face a window in daylight so the light falls evenly on your face; avoid overhead lights that throw shadows under the eyes.
- Look straight at the camera with a neutral expression, mouth closed and both eyes open.
- Remove hats and, for the US, glasses. Keep hair away from the eyes and the edges of the face.
- Leave space above the head and include both shoulders so the crop has room to fit the head-size band.
- Use the back camera at full resolution and turn off beauty filters and portrait-mode blur.
Printing your 4×6 passport photo sheet
The print sheet is a 4×6 in JPEG at 300 dpi with the photos laid out at true size, so it prints correctly as a standard 4×6 photo print at a pharmacy, supermarket photo counter or on a home photo printer.
- Order or print it as a 4×6 in (10×15 cm) photo with no cropping, borders or “fit to page” scaling.
- Cut carefully along the photo edges; each copy is already the official size.
- Check whether your form asks for a particular paper finish before printing.
- For an online application, upload the single photo file instead of the sheet.
What this tool cannot do
A passport photo has to pass a human or automated check at the office you send it to. Being honest about the limits helps you avoid a rejected application.
- It cannot guarantee acceptance. Offices make the final decision and rules change; always check the official page linked next to your result.
- It does not measure your face automatically. The crown is detected on a plain background and the chin position is a guide you confirm by eye.
- It cannot fix a blurry, dark or shadowed original in crop-only mode.
- Only five size standards are built in; there are no visa sizes for other countries yet.
- There is no printing or mail delivery and no expert review. You print the sheet yourself.

Frequently asked questions
Can I make a passport photo online for free?
Yes. Sign in, upload an unedited photo, choose your country and pick “Just crop my photo — no AI, free”. You get the photo at the official size plus a 4×6 in print sheet at no cost. Only the optional AI version, which replaces the background or clothes, uses credits.
Which passport photo sizes are supported?
Five: the USA (2×2 in, 600×600 px), India (35×45 mm, 630×810 px), EU / Schengen (35×45 mm), the UK (35×45 mm) and Canada (50×70 mm). Each comes with its own head-size band and background guidance taken from the government’s published rules.
Is an AI-edited passport photo accepted?
Often not for official passports. The US State Department, for example, refuses photos altered with software or filters. For an official application, use the free crop on an unedited photo, which does not change your face, and check your country’s current rules. No online tool can guarantee acceptance.
How do I get a white background for my passport photo?
The best way is to photograph yourself against a plain white or light wall in even daylight and use the free crop. If your background is busy, the AI version can replace it with plain white, off-white, light grey or light blue for 5 or 18 credits, but check first whether your office accepts edited photos.
How do I print a passport photo at home or at a store?
Download the 4×6 in print sheet and print it as a standard 4×6 photo with no scaling or borders. The sheet holds six US photos, eight India, EU or UK photos, or three Canada photos at true size, ready to cut out.
What size is a US passport photo in pixels?
The tool exports US passport photos at 600×600 pixels, the size used for the 2×2 inch photo, with the head from chin to top of hair between 1 and 1⅜ inches. The 4×6 print sheet holds six copies at true size.
Can I use this for an India passport photo?
Yes. Choose India to get a 35×45 mm photo at 630×810 pixels with a plain white background, and the head guide set to 36–38 mm from chin to crown. Check Passport Seva’s current photo specifications, linked next to your result, before you upload or print.
Why does the UK option say not to use a white background?
The UK rules ask for a plain cream or light grey background, not white. The tool shows each country’s background guidance under the crop, so choose off-white or light grey for a UK photo if you use the AI version.
Does the tool check that my head is the right size?
It places guide lines for the top of the hair and the chin band from each country’s rules and finds the top of the head on a plain background, but it does not measure faces automatically. Use the Bigger, Smaller and arrow buttons until your crown and chin sit inside the guides.
Can I make visa, green card or driving licence photos?
Only where the document uses one of the five built-in sizes. EU / Schengen visas use the 35×45 mm option. Other visa sizes, green card and driving licence formats are not built in, so check the document’s rules before reusing a crop.
