Remove Background From Image With AI: Transparent PNG in Seconds
The VdoBloom background remover is an AI background remover that cuts the subject out of a photo and returns a PNG with a real transparent background. Upload a portrait, a product shot or a pet photo, and the AI separates the subject from everything behind it, including soft edges like hair and fur.
Is it free? You can try it free: every new account gets 10 credits, enough for 10 Standard cut-outs or 5 HD cut-outs. After that it runs on credits. Standard (BiRefNet) costs 1 credit per image and HD (Bria RMBG 2.0) costs 2 credits. Credits come from the Lite pack (300 credits for $19.50 one-time, never expiring) or a monthly plan.
It is built for online sellers, marketers, designers and anyone who needs a clean cut-out for a listing, a slide, a thumbnail or a profile photo. Keep the background transparent, put the subject on white for marketplace listings, or fill it with any solid colour you pick. All three cost the same.

Before: the original portrait

After: HD cut-out as a transparent PNG
How it works
- 1
Upload a photo
JPEG, PNG or WebP. A clear subject that stands out from the background gives the cleanest cut-out. Tick the upload consent box to confirm you have the rights to the photo.
- 2
Pick quality
Standard (1 credit) handles most portraits and products. HD (2 credits) gives cleaner hair, fur and fine edges.
- 3
Pick the background
Transparent, white, or a solid colour from the colour picker. The colour is added after the cut-out at no extra cost.
- 4
Remove the background and download
The PNG is ready in seconds. Download it straight away; it is also saved to My Creations so you can come back to it.
Why use this tool
Real transparent PNG
The output carries an alpha channel, so the background is truly see-through instead of a white or checkered fill. It drops straight into Photoshop, Canva, Figma, PowerPoint or a video editor.
Two quality levels
BiRefNet for everyday cut-outs at 1 credit, Bria RMBG 2.0 for the cleanest edges at 2 credits. You choose per image, so you only pay more when the photo needs it.
White or colour backgrounds included
Marketplace-ready white backgrounds and brand-colour backgrounds cost the same as a transparent cut-out.
Part of a full image workspace
Send the cut-out on to the upscaler, the AI image editor, Layer Split or AI product photos without leaving VdoBloom.
Is the VdoBloom background remover free?
You can use it free to start. Signing up gives you 10 free credits, and one Standard background removal costs 1 credit, so the free credits cover 10 Standard images or 5 HD images. There is no watermark on the downloaded PNG.
Once the free credits are used, you buy credits. One-time packs never expire, so occasional users are not paying a monthly fee for a tool they use a few times a month. Subscription credits reset each billing cycle and suit people who process images every week.

Standard vs HD: which model should you use?
Both options return the same kind of file: a full PNG with the background removed. The difference is how carefully the model traces difficult edges.
- Start with Standard on simple product shots. If the edges look rough, re-run that one image in HD.
- Use HD by default for people and animals, where stray hair is what makes a cut-out look fake.
| Option | Model | Credits per image | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | BiRefNet | 1 | Products on plain backgrounds, logos, clear portraits, quick social graphics |
| HD | Bria RMBG 2.0 | 2 | Loose or curly hair, pet fur, fine detail, busy backgrounds, images going to print |
What does background removal cost?
Every price below comes straight from the credit cost of each option. The background choice (transparent, white or colour) never changes the price.
| Job | Standard (1 credit each) | HD (2 credits each) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 image | 1 credit | 2 credits |
| 10 free signup credits | 10 images | 5 images |
| A 25-product catalogue | 25 credits | 50 credits |
| Lite pack (300 credits, $19.50 one-time) | 300 images | 150 images |
What can you use a transparent background for?
A clean cut-out is a starting asset for almost any visual job. These are the most common uses:
- Product listings: white-background main images for Amazon, Etsy, Shopify, Flipkart and Meesho.
- Profile and ID photos: a plain backdrop for LinkedIn, résumés and passport-style photos.
- Marketing graphics: drop the subject into ads, banners, posters and YouTube thumbnails.
- Presentations: logos and product shots that sit on any slide colour without a white box around them.
- Stickers and print: transparent PNGs for T-shirts, mugs and sticker sheets.
- Composites: place the subject in a new scene with the AI image editor or AI product photos.

How does AI background removal work?
The AI is a segmentation model trained on a large set of photos with labelled subject outlines. For each pixel it decides how much belongs to the subject, which produces a mask with soft, partly transparent edges around hair and fur instead of a hard outline. The background is then cleared to transparent, or filled with white or your chosen colour.
Doing the same by hand with a pen or lasso tool in a photo editor gives full control but can take many minutes per image, especially around hair. The automatic cut-out takes seconds, and you can still open the PNG in your editor for a final touch-up.
Tips for the cleanest cut-out
Background removal works best when the AI can clearly tell where the subject ends. A few habits make a visible difference:
- Use the largest, sharpest version of the photo you have. Small, heavily compressed images give soft edges.
- Pick photos where the subject contrasts with the background: a dark jacket against a light wall, not against a dark wall.
- Keep the whole subject in frame. Cropped limbs or a cut-off product edge stay cut off in the PNG.
- For hair, fur, lace or glass, choose HD.
- If the result is too small for print, run the cut-out through the AI image upscaler afterwards.
What the background remover cannot do
It processes one photo per run; there is no bulk upload yet, so a catalogue is done image by image. There is no manual brush to restore or erase parts of the mask, so if the AI misjudges an edge, re-run the image in HD or retouch it in your editor.
Fully transparent objects such as clear glass, smoke and thin wire are hard for any automatic cut-out and may lose detail. To split a picture into several separate layers (each person, object and text block as its own PNG), use Layer Split instead. For video, use the video background remover.

Frequently asked questions
How do I remove the background from an image?
Open the VdoBloom Background Remover, upload your photo, choose Standard or HD, pick transparent, white or a solid colour, and click Remove background. In a few seconds you get a PNG with the background removed that you can download right away.
Is this AI background remover free?
You can try it free. New accounts get 10 free credits, and a Standard removal costs 1 credit (HD costs 2), so you can remove the background from up to 10 images without paying. After that you buy credits; one-time packs never expire.
Is the result a real transparent PNG?
Yes. The output is a PNG with an alpha channel, so the background is truly transparent rather than white or checkered. It works in Photoshop, Canva, Figma, PowerPoint, Google Slides and video editors.
What is the difference between Standard and HD?
Standard uses the BiRefNet model and costs 1 credit; it handles most portraits and products well. HD uses Bria RMBG 2.0 and costs 2 credits; it gives cleaner hair, fur and fine edges.
Can I put the subject on a white background instead?
Yes. Pick White for marketplace-ready product photos (Amazon, Etsy, Shopify), or pick any solid colour with the colour picker. The price is the same as a transparent cut-out.
Does the downloaded image have a watermark?
No. The PNG you download has no VdoBloom watermark, including images made with the free signup credits.
Does it work on hair and pet fur?
Yes. Choose HD for hair and fur: Bria RMBG 2.0 traces fine strands more carefully than the Standard model. Clear, well-lit photos with contrast between the subject and the background give the best results.
What image formats can I upload?
Upload a JPEG, PNG or WebP photo. The result is always a PNG, because PNG is the common format that keeps transparency.
Can I remove backgrounds from many images at once?
Not yet. The tool processes one image per run. Each image takes a few seconds, and every result is saved to My Creations so you can download the set when you are done.
Can I replace the background with a new scene?
The background remover itself offers transparent, white or a solid colour. To place the subject in a new scene, take the cut-out into the AI image editor or AI product photos and describe the background you want.
