Manga Translator AI: Translate and Re-letter Manga Pages

The VdoBloom manga translator reads every speech bubble, thought bubble and caption on a manga, manhwa, manhua or webtoon page, translates it, and sets the translation back into the bubbles so the page still reads like a comic. Upload one page, pick a target language from 24, and download the re-lettered image. A second tool on the same tab adds flat colors to a black-and-white page.

Is it free? New accounts get 10 free credits with no card. A Precise translation costs 6 credits per page, so your first page is free with credits to spare. Fast mode costs 5 credits per page on the Standard engine or 18 on Pro, and colorizing costs the same 5 or 18. A failed translation refunds its credits automatically. The translator is meant for your own pages and pages you have the rights to translate: creators localising their work, scanlation-style teams with permission, teachers and language learners working from their own material.

Precise mode is the one most people want. A vision model (Gemini 3.1 Pro) finds each text block in reading order, including vertical Japanese text read top-to-bottom and right-to-left. VdoBloom's server then erases the original lettering itself and sets the translation in real fonts, so the artwork is never redrawn and scripts that image models often misspell, such as Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali and Arabic, come out spelled correctly. Fast mode instead asks an image model to re-letter the whole page in one pass.

How it works

  1. 1

    Choose Translate

Open the Manga Translator tab and keep the Translate tool selected. (Colorize is the second tool on the same tab.)

  2. 2

    Upload one page

Upload a single page or panel image. Very tall images, such as a whole webtoon strip taller than about 2.4 times its width, are rejected: slice the strip and upload one slice at a time.

  3. 3

    Pick the target language

Choose from 24 languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Hindi, Indonesian, Arabic, Thai, Vietnamese, Tamil, Malayalam and Bengali.

  4. 4

    Pick Precise or Fast

Precise (6 credits) keeps the art untouched and spells every script correctly with real fonts. Fast (5 credits Standard, 18 Pro) lets an image model re-letter the whole page.

  5. 5

    Confirm your rights

Tick the box confirming you own the page or have the rights to translate it. Do not upload other people's published manga.

  6. 6

    Translate and download

The cost is shown before you run it. When the translated page is ready, download it as an image and compare it with the original.

Why use this tool

  • Art left untouched in Precise mode

The server erases only the text inside each detected box and letters the translation in, so lines, screentones and faces are never redrawn by an image model.

  • Correct spelling in hard scripts

Real fonts are used for Indian scripts and Arabic, so Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Arabic come out spelled right.

  • Reads vertical text and reading order

The vision model reads speech, thought bubbles and captions in reading order, including vertical Japanese text, and keeps character names as names.

  • Sound effects left as drawn

In Precise mode, drawn sound effects stay in the art, so stylised SFX lettering is not replaced by plain type.

  • Colorize on the same tab

Switch to Colorize to add flat colors to a black-and-white page, with an optional color reference image and short color notes such as 'red scarf, blue night sky'.

  • Pay per page, refunded on failure

No subscription needed. Each page is charged when you run it, and a translation that fails returns its credits automatically.

Precise vs Fast: which mode to use

Both modes translate the same text; they differ in who draws the letters. Prices are per page, from VdoBloom's credit table.

Supported languages

You can translate into 24 languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Hindi, Indonesian, Arabic, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, Filipino, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati. The source text is read by the vision model straight from the page, so Japanese manga, Korean manhwa and Chinese manhua pages all work as input.

Who uses a manga translator

  • Independent manga and webtoon creators publishing their own work in more languages.
  • Small studios and publishers checking a draft localisation before hiring a letterer.
  • Teams translating pages they have permission to translate.
  • Language learners and teachers working with pages they own.
  • Readers translating a page from a volume they bought, for personal reading.
  • Creators of Indian-language or Arabic comics who need correct spelling in those scripts.

Tips for clean results

  • Upload a sharp, high-resolution scan. Blurry or heavily compressed text is harder to read and to erase cleanly.
  • Use Precise for anything you will publish; use Fast for a quick read of a page.
  • Translate one page at a time and slice long webtoon strips into page-sized pieces.
  • Pick Precise for Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Bengali, Arabic and the other non-Latin scripts.
  • Check names and honorifics after translation; the model keeps names as names, but terms of address are a translation choice.
  • Have a fluent reader proofread anything you publish. Machine translation is a strong first draft, not a final edit.

Limits and rights

The translator works on one page per run; there is no batch or whole-chapter upload yet, and very tall strips must be sliced. Precise mode leaves drawn sound effects untranslated. Text that is tiny, hand-drawn into the art or heavily stylised may be missed or placed imperfectly, so review each page. You must own the page or have the rights to translate it; uploading other people's published manga is not allowed.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI manga translator free?

You can translate your first page free. New accounts get 10 free credits with no card; a Precise translation is 6 credits and a Fast Standard translation is 5. After that you buy credits: the Lite pack is 300 credits for $19.50 one-time, which covers 50 Precise pages.

How do I translate a manga page with AI?

Upload the page, choose the target language, pick Precise or Fast, confirm you have the rights to translate it, and run it. The translated page appears with the text re-lettered inside the bubbles, ready to download.

Does the translator keep the original art?

In Precise mode, yes. Only the text inside each detected box is erased and replaced, so the artwork is never redrawn. Fast mode lets an image model re-letter the whole page, which is quicker but can change small details.

Can it translate Japanese manga to English?

Yes. Japanese, Korean and Chinese pages work as input, including vertical Japanese text, and English is one of the 24 target languages.

Which languages can I translate into?

24: English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified), Hindi, Indonesian, Arabic, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Thai, Filipino, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati.

Can it translate webtoons and manhwa?

Yes, one page or slice at a time. Images more than about 2.4 times taller than they are wide are rejected, so cut a long webtoon strip into slices first.

Does it translate sound effects?

Precise mode leaves drawn sound effects as they are in the art and translates speech, thought bubbles and captions. Fast mode re-letters the page as a whole.

What is the difference between Precise and Fast?

Precise (6 credits) uses a vision model to read each bubble and VdoBloom's own lettering with real fonts, so art stays exact and every script is spelled correctly. Fast (5 Standard, 18 Pro) has an image model re-letter the whole page in one pass.

Can I colorize a black-and-white manga page?

Yes. Switch the tab to Colorize, upload the page, optionally add a color reference image and short notes, and choose Standard (5 credits) or Pro (18 credits).

Can I translate any manga I find online?

No. You must own the page or have the rights to translate it, and you confirm that before each translation. Do not upload other people's published manga.
