Keyframe animation (the old way): zoom, pan or slide a still photo in an editor like CapCut, InShot, PowerPoint or Premiere. Nothing in the picture actually moves; the camera just drifts over it. This is the Ken Burns effect.
AI animation (the new way): an image-to-video model looks at the photo and generates new frames, so the person blinks and smiles, hair blows in the wind, water flows, the camera orbits. The result is a real video clip, not a moving still.

Sample motion prompts

Portrait: “She slowly turns her head toward the camera, blinks and smiles softly; a light breeze moves her hair; camera stays still.”
Landscape: “Clouds drift across the sky, the waterfall flows, mist rises from the pool; slow push-in.”

Describe motion, not the photo. The model can already see the photo; repeating “a woman in a red dress in a park” wastes the prompt. Say what should move and what should stay still.

Special cases: old photos, hugs, and photo with sound

Why the animation looks weird, and how to fix it

Face changes: use a sharper, front-facing photo, keep motion small, and try a model known for faces like Kling V3 Turbo.
Warped hands or extra fingers: avoid prompts where hands move a lot; crop so hands are less prominent. Regenerating with a slightly different motion prompt often fixes it.
Nothing happens: the prompt was too vague. Name the moving parts: “hair”, “water”, “head turns left”.
Too much happens: ask for one action per clip and say “camera stays still”.

Only animate photos you have the right to use

Animate your own photos or photos of people who agreed. Never animate photos of minors in anything suggestive, never create intimate or sexual content of a real person, and do not animate public figures in videos meant to look real.
