AI Interior Design: Restyle a Room From One Photo
Interior changes are expensive to test. Painting a wall a colour you hate costs a weekend; replacing a sofa in the wrong style costs far more. This tool exists so the expensive version is optional: upload a straight, well-lit photo of a room and it comes back restyled, repainted, decluttered, or as a garden redesign — with the architecture held in place while the furniture, materials and decoration change.
Five tasks sit behind the same upload. Restyle redesigns the room in a chosen interior style. Paint swaps surfaces and materials from a description you type. Declutter removes loose mess and reconstructs the surface behind it while every piece of furniture stays exactly where it is. Garden redesigns an outdoor space in one of six garden styles. The fifth turns a flat 2D floor plan into a 3D isometric cutaway render, furnished in the style you pick.
What this tool does
- VdoBloom's room restyle tool has five tasks on one upload: restyle the room, paint or swap materials, declutter, redesign a garden, or render a floor plan in 3D.
- The room, walls, windows, doors, ceiling height, layout, built-in fixtures and the exact camera angle and lens are kept while the styling changes.
- Nine interior styles are built in: Scandinavian, Japandi, modern minimal, industrial, boho, mid-century, coastal, Indian contemporary and luxury classic.
- Paint mode takes your own description of what to change — for example sage green walls and a light oak floor — and keeps every piece of furniture, window, door and light fitting exactly as it is.
- Declutter removes loose clutter such as clothes, papers, cables, dishes and boxes and reconstructs the surface behind it, without replacing or restyling any furniture.
- The floors, furniture and lighting follow the camera angle in the original photo rather than requiring a fresh camera angle.
Start with the photo, not the style
Most disappointing interiors results are caused by the input, not the style. Shoot square to the main wall rather than into a corner, because a diagonal composition leaves the model guessing at the geometry it is meant to preserve. Turn the lights on and open the curtains: rooms photographed in the evening with one lamp give a dark, soft image, and dark images restyle into dark rooms.
Tidy before you shoot, even if you intend to use declutter mode. The tool can remove loose clutter, but a photo where a table is roughly where you want it produces a better redesign than one where the same table is piled with laundry — the model is reading shapes, and clutter obscures them.
Using renders for real decisions
The most valuable use of a restyle is narrowing a choice before spending money. Run the same photo through three styles you are weighing, put them side by side, and rule out the one that obviously does not work in that light and space. Painting two or three wall colours onto the same photo is faster than buying sample pots for each of them.
What a render cannot do is guarantee the physical result. Screen colour is not paint colour, a wide-angle phone lens exaggerates the size of a room, and a restyle confidently places furniture that may not fit. Use the renders to shortlist, and measure before you order anything.
How it works
1.Upload a straight, well-lit room photo
Stand back, shoot square to the room rather than into a corner, and turn the lights on. The camera angle you submit is the angle you keep, so a level shot matters more than a wide one.
2.Choose the task
Restyle for a full redesign, Paint for specific surfaces, Declutter to clear the mess without changing anything else, Garden for outside, Floor plan for a plan image.
3.Pick a style or describe the change
Nine interior styles for restyle, six garden styles outside. In paint mode you type the change yourself — walls, floor, units, worktop. An optional notes field takes up to 160 characters, like "keep the grey sofa".
4.Compare against the original before you buy anything
Put the two images side by side. Colour on a screen and colour in a room differ, so treat the render as a direction rather than a paint chip, and check the sample in real light before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Will the room still look like my room?
The architecture is what holds it together. Walls, windows, doors, ceiling height, room layout, built-in fixtures and the exact camera angle are explicitly kept, so the render stays the same space with different furniture and finishes. Door and window positions are the anchor — if those are right, the image reads as your room.
Can I change just the wall colour and nothing else?
Yes. Paint mode is built for exactly that: you describe the surfaces to change — "sage green walls, light oak floor" — and the prompt holds every piece of furniture, object, window, door and light fitting in place, along with the camera angle. It is the most literal of the five tasks and the most useful before a decorating weekend.
What does decluttering actually do?
It removes loose clutter — clothes, papers, bags, cables, dishes, toys and small scattered items — and reconstructs whatever surface they were sitting on. Every piece of furniture stays the same object in the same place: the same sofa, chairs, tables and rugs, not replaced and not restyled. That makes it the right tool for a property listing photo where the furniture is staying.
What if I want to keep one piece of furniture?
Use the notes field. Up to 160 characters — "keep the grey sofa, replace everything else" — is passed to the model as the owner's notes. Naming one or two things you are attached to is usually enough to keep a restyle useful rather than hypothetical.
Does the floor plan render really match my plan?
The 3D cutaway keeps every room, wall, door and window in the same position and proportion as the plan, viewed from the plan's bottom edge, with walls cut at waist height so you can see in. Rooms are not moved, swapped, mirrored or rotated. It is a visualisation of the plan you supplied, not a new layout — which is what makes it usable for a client conversation.
Can it design a garden as well as a room?
Yes — garden redesign takes a photo of a yard, terrace or garden and restyles it in one of six styles: cottage, modern, Japanese zen, tropical, Mediterranean or low-water. The house, walls, fences, gates, path starting points and the camera angle are kept, so the planting changes without the boundaries moving.
Do the images come out at a usable resolution?
Yes — results are upscaled, which matters if the image is going into a listing, a mood board or a client presentation rather than being looked at on a phone. Furniture is rendered at a believable scale with real shadows, so a restyle is a fair test of whether a layout works.
