Best AI Text to Speech in 2026, by Language

Best AI text to speech in 2026: 16 languages incl. Spanish, Hindi and Tamil, emotion tips for audiobooks, faceless YouTube narration, and cost per 1,000 characters.

By VdoBloom Team

VdoBloom's AI text to speech reads scripts in 16 languages: English, Hindi, Tamil, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Arabic, Russian, Indonesian, Turkish and Vietnamese. It does not offer Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi or Urdu voices today. A run can be up to 10,000 characters, costs 8 credits per started 1,000 characters on MiniMax Speech 2.8 (6 on xAI TTS), and new accounts get 10 free credits to try it.

Updated 31 October 2026.

Most "best text to speech" pages say they support 90 or more languages and stop there. That is not much use if you need a Kannada voiceover by tonight. This guide goes language by language and says plainly what works on VdoBloom and what does not, so you can decide before you spend anything.

Quick facts

  • Engines: MiniMax Speech 2.8 (26 voices, 13 female and 13 male) and xAI TTS (6 expressive voices).
  • Languages in the menu: 16, plus an Auto option.
  • Indian languages: Hindi and Tamil only. Indian-accented English comes from writing in English with the language set to English.
  • Script length: up to 10,000 characters per generation.
  • Price: 8 credits per started 1,000 characters (MiniMax) or 6 (xAI). A 2,500-character script on MiniMax is 24 credits.
  • Free start: 10 credits on sign-up, enough for one voiceover of up to 1,000 characters. Free accounts can listen in the browser; MP3 download needs a paid plan.
  • No subscription needed: one-time credit packs never expire. The Lite pack is 300 credits for $19.50.

If your language is in the "No" rows, VdoBloom's text to speech is the wrong tool for that job today. We would rather say that here than have you find out after buying credits.

What is the best AI text to speech for Hindi voiceovers?

On VdoBloom, pick MiniMax Speech 2.8, set the language to Hindi and write the script in Devanagari. Every MiniMax voice speaks every supported language, so you choose the voice by tone, not by language. For an Instagram Reel in a Hindi female voice, try a few of the female voices (Olivia, Emma, Grace, Mia, Sophia and others) on the same two lines and keep the one that fits your page. Each test of a short line costs 8 credits on MiniMax or 6 on xAI.

Hinglish scripts with English words mixed in are common. Leave brand names and common English words in Latin letters and the rest in Devanagari, then listen to the first read. If one word comes out wrong, spell it the way it sounds and generate again. Our Hindi AI voiceover guide covers script tips in more detail.

For devotional bhajan narration, write the lines as narration, not as sung lyrics. Text to speech speaks; it does not sing or follow a melody. Short lines with full stops give the slow, calm pace that devotional content needs.

Best Tamil text to speech AI voice

Tamil is in the menu. Write the script in Tamil script, select Tamil, and pick a voice. As with Hindi, test two or three voices on a short paragraph first. Numbers and dates read more reliably when you write them out as words.

Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati and Punjabi

These are not available for voice on VdoBloom's text to speech. Typing Telugu text into the box will not give you a natural Telugu voiceover, so please do not spend credits trying.

Two related tools do cover some of these languages, for different jobs. AI Reel Maker makes a talking-head reel from one photo and lists English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Spanish and Arabic as spoken languages, so it can work if you want a person speaking Telugu on screen. AI Captions can caption a video spoken in Bengali, Telugu, Marathi or Malayalam (it adds subtitles; it does not generate a voice).

Arabic text to speech with a realistic voice

Arabic is supported. Write in Arabic script, set the language to Arabic and use full stops and commas to control pauses.

Spanish, Portuguese and Indonesian

All three are in the menu. For Spanish and Portuguese, set the language explicitly rather than leaving it on Auto, which helps with names and with words that look similar across languages. Indonesian works the same way. The same 26 MiniMax voices are available for each, so a channel can keep one recognisable narrator across several languages.

French or German text to speech

Both are supported, along with Italian. Long compound words in German read better when the sentence around them is short. For French, keep the accents in the text, since they change the pronunciation.

What about the most natural sounding voice, and emotion?

There is no speed, pitch or emotion slider on the text to speech page. Delivery comes from the voice you pick and how you write the script. Short sentences, commas where you would breathe and a new paragraph for a longer pause make the biggest difference. The xAI voices (una, leo, eve, ara, sal, rex) are the more expressive set and suit short hooks and ads.

If you need a specific feel, such as a deep male voice for motivational videos or a warm older narrator, use AI Voice Design. You describe the voice in words (age, pitch, accent, tone, pace) and it creates a new one you can reuse. It is billed by characters: designing a voice is 1 credit, and a 2,000-character script is 3 credits. Each Voice Design run reads up to 2,000 characters.

For an Indian English accent, Voice Design is also the route: describe "a mid-30s male voice with an Indian English accent, clear and friendly" and test it on a sample line.

Text to speech for long scripts like 10,000 characters

One generation on the text to speech page takes up to 10,000 characters. MiniMax splits and joins long text for you inside that limit. For anything longer, split the script at a paragraph break and join the MP3 files in your editor.

Billing is per started block of 1,000 characters, so a 10,000-character run is 80 credits on MiniMax or 60 on xAI. Splitting it into two 5,000-character runs costs the same.

AI voiceover for YouTube, e-learning and audiobooks

For YouTube, write the script, generate the voiceover, then lay it under your footage. Our guide on adding an AI voiceover to a video walks through the editing step.

For e-learning, generate one lesson per run so a fix to one module does not mean regenerating the whole course. Keep the same voice for every lesson and write technical terms the way they should be said.

For audiobook narration, work chapter by chapter, each under 10,000 characters. One voice reads the whole run, so for dialogue with several characters, either keep a single narrator or design separate character voices in AI Voice Design and generate their lines apart.

Best text to speech website in 2026: October 2026 comparison

For a beginner, the simplest start is: paste two sentences, keep the language on your script's language, and generate with three voices. That is a 24-credit test on MiniMax, and the 10 free sign-up credits cover the first one. Nothing to install; it runs in a phone or desktop browser.

How do I get emotion into an AI audiobook voice?

There is no emotion dial, so the emotion has to come from the writing and the voice. What works:

  • Pick a narrator voice first. The MiniMax voices named Narrator and Storyteller are a good first test for long reads. Test a female voice too (Eleanor, Grace or Clara) on the same page.
  • Write the pace in. Short sentences speed things up. Commas and full stops slow them down. A new paragraph gives a longer pause before a reveal.
  • Use punctuation the way an actor reads. A question mark lifts the end of a line; an exclamation mark adds energy. Use them sparingly, or every line sounds shouted.
  • Keep one voice per chapter. Changing voices mid-book breaks the listener's trust. For character dialogue, design a separate voice in AI Voice Design and generate those lines on their own.
  • Work in chapters under 10,000 characters. A 10,000-character chapter costs 80 credits on MiniMax.

If you need a very specific tone, such as "a warm, slow grandmother telling a bedtime story", describe it in AI Voice Design and reuse that voice for every chapter.

Spanish text to speech for TikTok, and a Latin American Spanish voice

Spanish is in the language menu on both engines, and every MiniMax voice can read it. There is one Spanish setting, not separate options for Mexico, Spain or other countries, so we cannot promise a specific regional accent.

To get the most natural Latin American read:

  1. Write the script the way people say it in your market: local words, local spelling of names, "ustedes" rather than "vosotros".
  2. Set the language to Spanish explicitly instead of Auto.
  3. Generate the first line with three or four voices and keep the one that sounds right to a native listener.
  4. If you need a clearly regional accent, describe it in AI Voice Design, for example "a friendly Mexican Spanish female voice in her twenties, upbeat", and test it on a sample line.

For TikTok, keep the hook under 15 words and put it first. A 300-character Spanish hook is 8 credits on MiniMax or 6 on xAI.

Text to speech for faceless YouTube narration

Faceless channels need the same narrator every week. A simple workflow:

  1. Write the script, then read it aloud once yourself to catch clumsy sentences.
  2. Pick one MiniMax voice and stick with it for the whole channel. A 1,500-word script is about 9,000 characters, which is 72 credits on MiniMax in one run.
  3. Download the MP3 (paid plans) and lay it under your b-roll.
  4. Or let the Faceless YouTube Video Generator plan the shots: script writing there is free, and an 8-second Veo 3.1 Fast b-roll clip with sound costs 25 credits.

What it costs, and what is free

New accounts get 10 free credits, which covers one voiceover of up to 1,000 characters. You can play it in the browser on a free account; downloading the MP3 requires a paid plan. The Lite pack is 300 credits for $19.50 one-time (credits never expire) or $15 a month. Inviting a friend gives you both 10 credits. The exact cost of your script shows before you click Generate.
