Seedance 2 Mini vs Seedance V1 Lite I2V: Credits, Resolutions and Which to Pick

A head-to-head on ByteDance Seedance 2 Mini and Seedance V1 Lite I2V: real VdoBloom credit costs per tier, durations, resolutions and a clear verdict by use case.

Choose Seedance V1 Lite I2V when you are animating a photo and want the sharpest or cheapest result — it is the only one of the two that reaches 1080p, and it costs fewer credits than Seedance 2 Mini at every resolution the two share. Choose Seedance 2 Mini when you need text-to-video, a clip length other than 5 or 10 seconds, or cinema-wide 21:9 framing. Both are ByteDance models inside VdoBloom’s single credit system, but they come from different Seedance generations and they solve different problems.

What each model actually is

Seedance 2 Mini is the entry point to the Seedance 2 family. It handles both text-to-video and image-to-video from the same page, runs any whole-second duration from 4 to 15 seconds, and offers all six family aspect ratios — 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 3:4, 9:16 and 21:9. The deliberate cap is resolution: Mini stops at 720p. It carries the MODERATE content label, the same standard filtering as the rest of the Seedance 2 trio.

Seedance V1 Lite I2V comes from ByteDance’s first Seedance generation and is strictly image-to-video — there is no text-only mode. It has exactly two settings: duration at 5 or 10 seconds, and resolution at 480p, 720p or 1080p. There is no aspect-ratio control, because the output follows the shape of the image you upload. It is labelled HOT, VdoBloom’s more flexible filtering tier.

That is the real split. Mini is a general-purpose short-video model that happens to accept an image. Lite is a dedicated photo animator that happens to go to 1080p.

Specs and credit costs, side by side

VdoBloom prices every model in credits. One credit is $0.05 at the Lite plan rate of $15 for 300 credits, so the dollar figures below are directly comparable.

The result surprises people who assume the newer generation is the cheaper one. On a like-for-like image animation at 720p for 10 seconds, V1 Lite costs 18 credits and Mini costs 33 — Mini is roughly 83% more expensive for a clip at the same length and the same resolution.

Where Seedance 2 Mini earns its price

Mini is not overpriced; it is paying for range. Two things it does that Lite simply cannot:

  • Per-second duration. If your edit needs a 7-second clip, Lite forces you to generate 10 and trim, or generate 5 and stretch the cut. Mini gives you 7 exactly.
  • Framing you choose. Mini can render 21:9 cinema-wide, 9:16 vertical or 1:1 square regardless of the source image. Lite inherits whatever shape you upload.

And Mini generates from text alone, which Lite does not do at all. If you have no photo yet, the comparison ends there.

Seedance 2 Mini duration480p credits ($)720p credits ($)
4 seconds6 ($0.30)13 ($0.65)
7 seconds11 ($0.55)23 ($1.15)
12 seconds19 ($0.95)40 ($2.00)
15 seconds24 ($1.20)50 ($2.50)

Mini also has a separate, cheaper price tier that applies when you supply a reference video rather than a still — that path drops a 720p 10-second render to 20 credits. It is a different workflow from plain photo animation, so do not plan a budget around it unless you are actually feeding the model video.

Verdicts by job

Animating one product photo for a storefront: V1 Lite at 1080p for 5 seconds, 20 credits. Mini cannot reach 1080p at all, so there is no contest.

Bulk motion tests before committing: V1 Lite at 480p for 5 seconds, 4 credits. That is the cheapest real clip of the two by a factor of two, and the 10 free credits every new account gets will cover two of them with change left over.

Cutting to music or to a fixed slot: Seedance 2 Mini, because a 6-, 9- or 13-second clip drops straight into the timeline without a trim.

A vertical social clip from a landscape photo: Seedance 2 Mini at 9:16. Lite would hand you back a landscape video.

A concept that stricter models keep refusing: V1 Lite, on its HOT label. Swimwear, dance, fitness and fashion work that mainstream tools decline generally passes on VdoBloom’s flexible tier, and the ready-made fashion walk effect runs that kind of brief from a single upload. Explicit and illegal content stays blocked on every model.

If you are animating a photo of a real person, you must have that person’s consent before you generate — that applies to both models and to every effect on the platform.

A worked example

Say you have one studio shot of a jacket and a 40-credit budget. The efficient sequence is three 480p 5-second V1 Lite passes at 4 credits each to find the motion direction that works (12 credits), then one 1080p 5-second final at 20 credits. Total 32 credits, $1.60, with 8 left over for a retry. Running the same plan on Mini would cost 24 credits for the drafts and would still leave you without a 1080p master.

Flip the brief — no photo, a 21:9 hero shot, 12 seconds — and Mini does it for 40 credits at 720p while Lite cannot start. For prompt patterns that work across the family, the Seedance prompt library is the fastest place to start, and full plan and pack costs are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Can Seedance V1 Lite I2V generate video from text alone?

No. Every V1 Lite generation starts from an image you upload, with your text describing the motion. If you need text-only generation, Seedance 2 Mini covers that mode from the same interface.

Why is the newer Seedance 2 Mini more expensive at 720p?

Because you are paying for range rather than resolution. Mini supports text-to-video, twelve duration options and six aspect ratios; V1 Lite supports two durations and inherits your image’s shape. Per-second pricing on the newer family sits higher as a result. The exact credit cost is always displayed before you generate, and promotional rates change from time to time, so check the figure on screen.

Which one should I use for 1080p delivery?

V1 Lite, or its sibling V1 Pro Fast I2V. Seedance 2 Mini caps at 720p, so neither its 4-second nor its 15-second output will meet a 1080p delivery spec.

Do both models remove the watermark?

Watermark-free downloads with commercial rights come from the plan, not the model. Any paid VdoBloom plan downloads clean from either model; the free tier watermarks output from both.

How many clips do my 10 free credits cover?

Two V1 Lite clips at 480p for 5 seconds, with 2 credits left over, or one Seedance 2 Mini clip at 480p for 5 seconds. No card is required to claim them.
