Grok Imagine image pricing
Two xAI image models sit in our editor. The standard model takes one reference image and five aspect ratios. Pro is the Runware-hosted Image Pro build: it adds a 1K/2K resolution choice, nine aspect ratios and up to 20 reference images, and it is the one to reach for when typography or fine detail matters.

Neither image model charges extra for resolution on the standard tier, and Pro costs the same 10 credits whether you render at 1K or 2K — so if you are paying the Pro price, there is no reason not to take the 2K output. Grok Imagine Video 1.5 Preview pricing
The video model is image-to-video only: you supply a still and it animates it. Durations run from 1 to 15 seconds in one-second steps, at 480p, 720p or 1080p, across seven aspect ratios (1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4, 3:2 and 2:3). Pricing is per second, and the three resolution ladders are genuinely different rates rather than multipliers of one another.

The intermediate durations follow the same ladders: 4s is 6/12/20, 6s is 9/18/30, 7s is 11/21/35, 9s is 14/27/45, 11s is 17/33/55, 13s is 20/39/65 and 14s is 21/42/70. The 720p and 1080p tiers are exactly linear at 3 and 5 credits per second. The 480p tier runs at roughly 1.5 credits per second, with the odd seconds rounded up — so a 1-second 480p test costs 2 credits rather than 1.5, while a 15-second 480p clip costs 23 credits instead of 22.5. Across a full-length clip that rounding is under half a credit, which makes 480p almost exactly half the 720p rate and less than a third of 1080p.
What that costs against a real plan
Every account starts with 10 free credits and no card, which is two Grok Imagine images, one Pro image, or a two-second 1080p test clip. Lite at $15 a month buys 300 credits: 60 standard images, 30 Pro images, twelve 5-second 1080p clips, twenty 5-second 720p clips, or thirty-seven 5-second 480p clips. Annual billing drops the effective rate sharply — Pro at the 2,000-credit tier is $49 a month annually, about $0.0245 a credit, which takes a 5-second 1080p clip from $1.25 to about $0.61. One-time packs start at $2.49 for 75 credits and never expire, which is the sensible option if you animate a handful of stills a month rather than working in batches. A practical planning rule: storyboard at 480p, finish at 1080p. Fifteen 5-second 480p drafts cost 120 credits, the same as five 5-second 1080p finals. Getting your framing and motion right at the cheap tier before you commit is the single biggest saving available on this model, and it costs nothing extra to do.
Where the credits leak
Three things waste credits on Grok Imagine Video, and all three are avoidable. Generating long before you are sure of the motion is the first — a 15-second 1080p clip is 75 credits, fifteen times a one-second test. Picking 1080p for vertical social is the second: 9:16 content is usually viewed on a phone, and 720p at 3 credits per second is frequently indistinguishable after platform compression. The third is the input still. This is an image-to-video model, so it inherits everything from your source frame: a soft, low-resolution or badly cropped still produces a soft, low-resolution clip, and no amount of resolution on the output tier fixes it. Render the still at 2K with Grok Imagine Pro first if you have the credits.
When a generation errors out, our backend refunds the deducted credits automatically, and refunds are matched to the original deduction so the same charge cannot be reversed twice. That covers provider failures — it does not cover a clip that generates successfully but is not what you wanted, which is exactly why the cheap-draft habit pays for itself.
Content tier and consent
Both Grok Imagine image models and Grok Imagine Video carry the MODERATE content label on VdoBloom — more permissive than STRICT models such as the GPT Image and Nano Banana families, less permissive than our flexible HOT tier.
