Invitation Sizes: The Complete Guide (Wedding, Birthday, Party)
Invitation size chart in inches, mm and pixels — A7 5x7 wedding invites, RSVP cards, envelopes — plus how to make a video invite with AI.
The classic wedding invitation size is 5 × 7 inches (127 × 178 mm), known in the stationery trade as A7. Response cards are usually 4.25 × 5.5 in (A2) or 4.625 × 6.25 in (A6), and an A7 card fits a 5.25 × 7.25 in A7 envelope. For a digital invitation sent on WhatsApp the equivalent standard is 1080 × 1920 pixels, vertical.

Watch out for the two meanings of “A7”
This is the single most common source of confusion when ordering invitations, and it costs people print runs.
In stationery, the A-series refers to envelope sizes: A2, A6, A7, A8, A9. An A7 envelope measures 5.25 × 7.25 in and holds a 5 × 7 in card. In the ISO 216 paper system, A7 is a completely different thing: 74 × 105 mm, a small sheet about the size of a luggage tag.
So when a print shop says “A7” they almost always mean the envelope, and when a paper supplier in a metric country says “A7” they mean the small ISO sheet. Always give the measurement in millimetres or inches as well as the letter. That one habit prevents nearly every invitation reprint.

Which size for which occasion
- Wedding: A7 (5 × 7 in). It is the size guests expect, and it is the only one with a genuine range of envelopes, sleeves, ribbons and boxes made for it.
- Wedding RSVP: A2 (4.25 × 5.5 in). Small enough to sit inside an A7 envelope with the main card without making the packet bulky.
- Birthday party: A6 (4.625 × 6.25 in) for a printed card, or 4 × 6 in when a photo is the main feature.
- Party with a mood: 5 × 5 in or 7 × 7 in square. Squares stand out in a pile of rectangular mail and are cheaper to post than they look.
- Digital: 1080 × 1920 px for WhatsApp, Instagram Stories and phone screens; 1080 × 1350 px when it also needs to sit in a feed.
Envelopes and inserts
| Envelope | Envelope size | Card it holds |
|---|---|---|
| A7 | 5.25 × 7.25 in | 5 × 7 in |
| A6 | 4.75 × 6.5 in | 4.5 × 6.25 in |
| A2 | 4.375 × 5.75 in | 4.25 × 5.5 in |
| Square | 6.5 × 6.5 in | 6 × 6 in |
Add 3 mm of bleed on every side if any colour or photo runs to the edge, and keep text 3 mm inside the trim. Invitations are usually printed on heavier stock — 250 to 350 gsm for a card that stands up on its own, and 100 to 120 gsm for a sheet that goes in an envelope.
How to make a digital invitation with AI
For anything you are sending by message rather than post, the AI wedding invitation maker turns one photo plus your details into a short cinematic video. It is built for vertical viewing, so it lands correctly on the phone of everyone you send it to.
- Open the tool and choose an invite style: Royal / Mughal, Modern Minimal, South Indian Temple, Beach / Destination, Bollywood Cinematic or Garden Floral. The style sets the look, the music mood and the motion.
- Upload the couple’s photo. This is required, and it is the heart of the invitation — one clear photo of the two of you works better than several.
- Add the names. The groom’s name and the bride’s name each take up to 40 characters.
- Add the date and the venue. The date field takes up to 60 characters and the venue up to 90, so there is room for something like a full palace address.
- Add a hashtag if you want one. Up to 40 characters, optional, and handy when the video is going to be reshared.
- Generate. The video is created at 9:16 vertical, and rendering takes roughly two to three minutes.
- Share. Your names, date, venue and hashtag are added as an elegant title over the end of the video, in any language you write them in. That text overlay is free.
The model used is the Seedance 2 family, and the tool opens on Seedance 2 Mini with a 4-second, 480p clip. That combination costs 6 credits. Choosing a longer duration or a higher resolution on one of the larger Seedance models raises the cost, and the exact figure is quoted on screen before you generate. The same system powers three sibling tools you may need: Save the Date, Birthday Invite and Festival Greeting.
One honest limitation: this tool makes a video invitation, not a print-ready card. There is no A7 export. If you need both, generate the video for messaging and design the printed card separately at the sizes in the tables above.
Common mistakes
- Saying “A7” without units. As above, this is the top cause of reprints.
- Mixing sizes in one suite. A 5 × 7 in main card with a 4.625 × 6.25 in RSVP looks deliberate; a mismatched pair of near-sizes looks like an error.
- Forgetting bleed on a coloured invitation. Without it you get white slivers down the edges.
- Printing at 150 DPI. Small cards are read at arm’s length, so 300 DPI is the right target rather than the large-format exception.
- Making the digital version landscape. A horizontal invite shrinks to a postage-stamp band on a phone screen.
- Putting too much on the card. Names, date, venue and one way to respond. Dress code, gift registry and directions belong on an insert or a message.
If the digital invite is going on social as well as into group chats, the shape rules in our AI video aspect ratio guide and our notes on the best ratio for Reels apply here too. Generating the clip costs credits, and the plans page shows what each allowance covers. If you would rather send a still, the vertical video tools start from the same 9:16 shape.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard size of a wedding invitation?
5 × 7 inches, or 127 × 178 mm, which the stationery trade calls A7. It fits a 5.25 × 7.25 in A7 envelope and is the size with the widest choice of envelopes, sleeves and presentation boxes. All the components of a suite are built around it.
What size is an RSVP card?
4.25 × 5.5 in (108 × 140 mm), known as A2, is the traditional response card. It slides into an A7 envelope alongside the main invitation without adding bulk. Some suites use A6 at 4.625 × 6.25 in when there is more to say.
What size should a digital invitation be?
1080 × 1920 pixels, which is 9:16 vertical. It fills a phone screen, which is where most invitations are now read, and it works unchanged on WhatsApp, Instagram Stories and TikTok. Use 1080 × 1350 px if the invite also has to sit in a feed as a still.
How much bleed do invitations need?
3 mm (0.125 in) on all four sides if any colour, photo or pattern reaches the edge. Keep text and logos at least 3 mm inside the trim line. Plain white cards with no edge colour can usually be supplied without bleed, but confirm with your printer.
Can I make a wedding invitation with AI?
Yes. The AI wedding invitation maker turns one couple photo plus your names, date and venue into a vertical cinematic invite with the text added over the end of the clip. The Seedance 2 Mini option it opens on costs 6 credits for a 4-second 480p video, and the text overlay is free.
Open the AI wedding invitation maker, upload one photo of the couple, add your names, date and venue, and pick a style — the credit cost is quoted on screen before anything renders.
