1.Decide whether you are paying for length or for volume
If you need many short clips at a predictable price, Veo 3.1 Fast's flat 40 credits is simple. If your clips vary in length, Seedance's per-second billing means you only pay for the seconds you keep.
2.Test the prompt on Seedance 1.5 Pro at 480p
At 0.75 credits per second, a 4-second test is 3 credits. That is the cheapest way to check whether the model understands your scene before committing to a premium render.
3.Pick the aspect ratio before the model
If the shot has to be 21:9 or 4:3, Seedance 1.5 Pro can do it and Veo 3.1 cannot — Veo is limited to 16:9, 9:16 and Auto, and its 1080p HD download only works at 16:9.
4.Turn audio on deliberately
Seedance 1.5 Pro doubles its per-second rate when you enable audio, so a 1080p 8-second clip goes from 24 to 48 credits. Generate silent first, add audio only on the take you are keeping.
5.Escalate to Seedance 2 or 2.5 for the hero shot
Switch to the Seedance Effects tab for 4K (Seedance 2) or for a single 30-second take (Seedance 2.5). Keep the prompt you validated so the only thing changing is the model tier.

Is Seedance cheaper than Veo 3.1?
Across Seedance 1.5 Pro's whole duration range, yes. It bills 1.5 credits per second at 720p, so 8 seconds is 12 credits and its longest clip — 14 seconds — is 21, both against Veo 3.1 Fast's flat 40. The two rates would only meet at about 26 seconds, well past Seedance 1.5 Pro's own 14-second ceiling, so within the lengths you can actually order it is always cheaper — which is why the comparison is really about control, not just price.
Which one can generate a 30-second clip?
Seedance 2.5, on the Seedance Effects tab: 4 to 30 seconds in a single job, at 9.2 credits per second at 480p or 20 credits per second at 720p. Veo 3.1 has no duration control on VdoBloom, and no other model in the roster generates longer than 30 seconds in one pass.
Does either model produce audio?
Both can. Seedance 1.5 Pro has an audio switch that doubles its per-second rate, and the Seedance 2 family sends audio generation on by default. Veo 3.1 does not expose an audio toggle in VdoBloom's controls.
Can I animate an existing photo with either?
Yes. Seedance 1.5 Pro appears on both the text-to-video and image-to-video tabs, so the same model handles either input. Veo 3.1 takes 1-3 images through first-and-last-frame mode (1-2 images) and reference-to-video (1-3 images, veo3_fast at 16:9 only).
