Credits vs Subscription vs Unlimited: How Should You Pay for AI Video?

Credits, subscriptions and unlimited plans compared for AI video: what each billing model suits, what to check in the terms, and how to start without paying.

By VdoBloom Team

AI video is billed three ways: pay-as-you-go credits, a recurring plan, or an “unlimited” tier with conditions. VdoBloom is built around the first: no subscription is needed, credits never expire, and the Lite pack is 300 credits for $19.50 one time. India has a smaller starting pack at 75 credits for ₹299.

The three ways AI video gets billed

ModelWhat you payBest forWhat to check
One-time creditsA pack you buy once; each generation deducts its costBursts, projects, unpredictable monthsWhether the balance expires
Monthly planA recurring fee for a credit allowanceSteady monthly outputReset rules and what happens to unused credits
“Unlimited” tierA recurring fee with usage conditionsHigh volume on a limited model setCaps, queue priority and which models are included

The labels matter less than the conditions. A credit pack and a monthly allowance can cost the same on paper and behave completely differently when a project slips by three weeks. The questions in the right-hand column are the ones that decide which model suits you.

Where one-time credits fit: bursts, projects, never-expiring balance

One-time credits suit work that arrives in bursts. A product launch, a seasonal campaign, a batch of ads for one client: you buy what the project needs, spend it over the weeks the work takes, and the balance stays put in between.

The property that matters most is expiry. A balance that disappears at the end of the month punishes exactly the wrong behaviour, because the week you do not generate is the week you lose what you paid for. VdoBloom one-time credits never expire, so an unused balance from October is still there in January.

This is also the simplest way to cap a budget. A pack is a fixed amount, the price of each generation is shown before you confirm it, and a failed generation is refunded. You can see the remaining balance fall as you work instead of discovering the overage on an invoice. The credit mechanics are explained in AI video credits explained and what AI credits are and how they work.

Where a monthly plan fits and what to check in it

A monthly plan makes sense when output is steady enough that you would rebuy a pack every month anyway. The trade is a predictable monthly allowance for committing in advance.

Read four things before subscribing to any provider:

  • Do unused credits roll over? If not, size the plan to your slowest month, not your busiest.
  • What happens if you cancel? Check whether access stops immediately or runs to the end of the period.
  • Are downloads watermark-free, and are commercial rights included? This is often where the real difference sits.
  • Which models does the allowance cover? Some plans price premium models at a higher credit rate, so the headline allowance is not the whole story.

On VdoBloom the same wallet covers every model, so a plan and a pack spend identically. Whether a recurring plan or a one-time pack is the better fit is covered in the no-subscription guide.

What “unlimited” usually means: caps, queue speed, which models (check each provider terms)

An unlimited tier is usually a fair-use arrangement rather than an absence of limits. The common conditions are worth knowing before you build a workflow around one.

  • A cap in the terms. Many unlimited plans carry a monthly generation limit or a concurrency limit that is described as fair use.
  • Queue speed. Unlimited jobs often run behind priority or paid tiers at peak times, so a render that takes minutes elsewhere can take much longer.
  • A model list. The subscription may cover a standard set while newer or premium models cost extra credits or are excluded.
  • Output conditions. Resolution caps, watermarks on lower tiers and restrictions on commercial use are common.

None of that makes an unlimited plan dishonest. It means the word describes the pricing shape, not the absence of a meter. Check each provider’s terms for the current limits, and test the queue at the time of day you actually work. If your output is steady and the included models fit, an unlimited tier can be good value. If your work is bursty or model-specific, a credit balance is easier to reason about.

Count cost per finished clip, not per credit

A credit price tells you what one call costs. It does not tell you what a finished clip costs, because a finished clip is usually several calls: a draft or two, a variation, then the final render.

Count the whole path. A 5-second draft at 480p, a second attempt after a prompt fix, and one 720p finish is three generations, and that is the number to put in a budget. This is why draft resolution matters more than the headline price of the top tier. Rendering every experiment at delivery quality multiplies the cost of finding an idea that works.

The practical rule is to spend on decisions, not on pixels. Draft cheaply, decide, then pay for the finish. The method for running several variants without losing track is in AI video batch generation.

A worked example with one pack

Say you are making a set of product clips and you buy the Lite pack: 300 credits for $19.50 one time. A 5-second 720p Seedance 2.5 clip is 126 credits, so the pack covers two of those renders with 48 credits left for drafts. The same 5-second clip at 480p is 56 credits, so three drafts and one 720p finish fit inside the pack.

That difference is the whole budgeting lesson. The pack is fixed; how far it goes depends on the order you spend it. Draft at the lower tier, compare the takes, and re-render the winner. Every price is shown before you generate, a failed job is refunded, and an unused balance does not disappear. India has a smaller entry point at 75 credits for ₹299. Current packs and plan options are on the pricing page.

How to start without paying

New VdoBloom accounts start with 10 free credits and no card. That is not enough for a premium render, but it is enough to open the model picker, see how the credit cost updates as you change duration and resolution, and run a cheap draft.

Start on the cheapest model that can answer your question. Generate one short clip, watch where the motion breaks, and only then decide whether you need a pack or a plan. The free AI video generator page explains what the starter credits cover and what they do not.

Do that before you subscribe to anything. The billing model that fits is easier to see after one real job than after a comparison table.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a subscription to make AI video on VdoBloom?

No. You can buy a one-time credit pack and spend it whenever you like. Credits never expire, and the price of each generation is shown before you confirm.

What does the Lite pack include?

300 credits for $19.50 one time. India has a smaller pack at 75 credits for ₹299. Paid plans remove the watermark and include commercial rights.

Are unlimited AI video plans really unlimited?

Usually not in the literal sense. Check the terms for fair-use caps, queue priority, which models are included, resolution limits and commercial-use conditions.

Should I count credits or finished clips?

Finished clips. A clip usually takes a draft or two plus a final render, so budget the whole path rather than the price of one call.

What happens if a generation fails?

The credits are refunded automatically. You are not charged for a job that did not produce a result, and the price is visible before you start.

Open pricing to compare the packs and plans, or start with the 10 free credits every new account gets, no card required, and run one short draft in the text-to-video tool before buying anything. No subscription is needed, one-time credits never expire, and failed generations are refunded.
