Best AI Video Generators for Social Media in 2026 (TikTok, Reels, Shorts)

CapCut, Canva, InVideo, Pictory, HeyGen, Runway, Pika, Higgsfield, Pollo and VdoBloom compared for 9:16, captions, effects, prices and free tiers.

By VdoBloom Team

For TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, the best AI video tool depends on what you start with. Footage you already filmed goes to CapCut or Canva. A topic or script with no footage suits InVideo AI or Pictory. A talking presenter means HeyGen. Original generated clips come from Runway, Pika, Higgsfield, Pollo or VdoBloom. For one-photo trend effects plus captions on credits that never expire, VdoBloom is the option we built.

Updated October 2026.

Disclosure: VdoBloom is our platform.

This guide covers all three short-video platforms at once. If you only post to Instagram, our narrower best AI video generator for Instagram Reels goes deeper on Edits, OpusClip and Reels-specific free tiers. For the formats themselves (effects, avatars, faceless stories, clipped podcasts), see how people make those AI videos on TikTok.

Three kinds of tool, one vertical frame

All three platforms play video full screen at 9:16, so every tool here exports vertical. They do different jobs, though. Editors (CapCut, Canva) add captions and templates to footage you bring. Script-to-video tools (InVideo AI, Pictory, HeyGen) build a voiced, captioned video from a topic, a script or an avatar. Generators (Runway, Pika, Higgsfield, Pollo, VdoBloom) create the footage itself from a prompt or photo. Many creators pair a generator for the hook shot with an editor for captions and audio.

Comparison table (prices checked October 2026)

Prices come from each vendor’s own pricing page, checked on 19 October 2026. Where a vendor shows prices by region at checkout, we say so instead of guessing a dollar figure. Plans change often, so confirm before you pay.

The tools, one by one

CapCut

CapCut is still the default editor for TikTok creators. Auto captions can highlight keywords and flag filler words, the templates follow current trends, and a script-to-video tool is offered in some regions. The limits: some assets need Pro, Pro is priced by region, and CapCut isn’t available in every country.

Canva

Canva suits small businesses that want every Reel on brand. Its Create a Video Clip tool, built on Google’s Veo, makes clips of up to 8 seconds with sound, but only on paid plans and with a monthly allowance. Think of Canva as a design tool that now has AI video, not a dedicated generator.

InVideo AI

Give InVideo a topic and it writes the script, picks scenes, adds a voice-over and subtitles, and exports vertical. Basic is $9 a month for 190 credits. Pro ($30 monthly, $15 yearly, 1,000 credits) unlocks Seedance 2.5 at 1080p. Unused credits don’t roll over, and the pricing page lists no free plan.

Pictory

Pictory converts scripts, articles and long recordings into short clips, with a choice of 9:16, 16:9 or 1:1 and auto captions you can restyle with templates. It bills in video minutes (200 a month on Starter). Its visuals come mostly from stock libraries, so it isn’t the tool for surreal AI shots.

HeyGen

HeyGen is the specialist for talking-head content: an avatar or your digital twin reads a script, with captions burned in or exported as SRT. The free plan gives 3 videos a month of up to a minute, and watermark removal is a paid feature. It’s built for explainers and UGC-style ads, not B-roll.

Runway

Runway is aimed at people who want control: Gen-4.5 for generation, plus apps for relighting, changing backdrops and editing existing footage. Standard is $15 a month for 625 credits, and monthly credits don’t roll over. For a full breakdown, see our Higgsfield vs Runway comparison.

Pika

Pika now runs many third-party models (Seedance, Veo, Wan and others) inside one app, and its pricing page shows no watermark on any plan, including free. The catch is that the free plan has no monthly credits, so you buy a pack to start. Plan credits reset each period, and top-ups expire after 365 days.

Higgsfield

Higgsfield is known for cinematic camera presets, an Effects library and Marketing Studio for product ads. Basic is $9 a month for 120 credits, Pro $29 ($23 yearly) for 600, and Max $79 ($59 yearly) for 1,800. Its unlimited offers apply only on higgsfield.ai and can slow down at busy times.

Pollo AI

Pollo combines its own Pollo models with third-party ones and a large set of effect templates. Its cheapest model (Pollo 2.5 at 720p) costs 5 credits per 5-second clip, so the 20 free credits go further than on most tools. Paid plans run from 400 to 5,000 credits a month, are priced by region and export without a watermark.

VdoBloom

VdoBloom is a credit-based platform with a different mix:

  • Viral effect templates. Dozens of one-photo effects, such as hug, couple dance, melt and levitate, plus curated Seedance effects that default to 9:16. A 5-second 720p effect clip costs 10 credits.
  • Many models. Text-to-video and image-to-video run Kling, Seedance, Veo, Wan, Hailuo, PixVerse, Runway and more. Prices are shown before you generate: a 5-second Kling 3.0 clip is 28 credits, a 5-second 720p Wan 3.0 clip with audio is 32, and a Veo 3.1 Fast clip is 40.
  • Captions and clipping. AI Captions burns styled word-by-word captions into an upload for 2 credits a minute (minimum 4, with three renders included). Clip Studio cuts long videos into captioned vertical shorts at the same rate, and the AI Reel Maker turns a topic and your photo into a captioned talking reel.
  • Credits that never expire. No subscription required: a one-time pack is $10.39 for 200 credits, and monthly plans start at $15 for 300.

The limits: the 10 free credits cover about one effect clip, free downloads carry a watermark, effect clips are short (5–10 seconds), and you download and post yourself, since there is no scheduling to TikTok or Instagram. Premium models such as Seedance 2.5 cost far more per clip than an effect (126 credits for 5 seconds at 720p), so test on cheaper models first.

Same prompt, four models

We ran the same vertical prompts through four models on VdoBloom. Look for steady faces and hands, and whether the camera move matches the prompt.

On the product shot, check whether the label stays sharp as the camera moves.

The crowd scene shows which models keep each person distinct.

Verdict by platform and use case

  • TikTok trends from your own footage: CapCut. Add one AI effect clip as the hook if you want something unexpected. Our guide to viral AI videos for TikTok walks through it.
  • Instagram Reels for a brand: Canva for on-brand templates, and a generator for the hero shot.
  • YouTube Shorts from long videos: Pictory or VdoBloom’s Clip Studio. See how to turn a long video into Shorts.
  • Faceless daily posting: InVideo AI or Pictory.
  • Talking presenter or UGC ad: HeyGen.
  • Cinematic generated shots: Runway or Higgsfield.
  • Photo effect trends (hug, dance, melt): VdoBloom, Pollo or Higgsfield. VdoBloom fits if you also want captions and many models on credits that never expire.
  • Posting a few times a month: a pay-as-you-go balance usually wastes less than a subscription whose credits reset.

FAQ

Which AI video generator is free for TikTok?

CapCut’s editor is free to start. Among generators, Pollo gives 20 credits, Runway 125 one-time credits and VdoBloom 10 credits plus a daily check-in. Free output is limited and often watermarked, so expect a few test clips rather than unlimited free videos.

What size should TikTok, Reels and Shorts videos be?

9:16 vertical, ideally 1080×1920. Set the ratio before you generate instead of cropping afterwards. Our Shorts aspect ratio guide covers safe areas.

Do I need captions on short videos?

Yes. Many viewers start with the sound off, so burned-in captions help them follow along. Our roundup of AI caption generators compares the options.
