How to Make AI Video Longer Than 5-10 Seconds

There are three ways to make an AI video longer than 5 to 10 seconds. First, pick a model that generates longer clips in one go: on VdoBloom, Seedance 2.5 and Wan 3.0 both go up to 30 seconds. Second, generate several shots and join them. Third, use a tool that plans, generates and stitches the shots for you. Why are AI videos only 5, 8 or 10 seconds long?

Video models generate every frame of a clip together, and the compute cost grows quickly with length. Consistency also drops as a clip gets longer: faces drift, textures shimmer and the scene loses track of itself. That's why most providers default to short clips and charge by the second. As of September 2026, Google's Veo 3.1 generates 8-second clips by default, per the Gemini API documentation. Most other major models offer 5, 10 or up to 15 seconds.

So "how do I make AI videos longer than 8 seconds" or "longer than 15 seconds" usually has one of two answers. Either you switch to a model with a higher ceiling, or you join several clips.

Option 1: choose a model that renders longer clips

This is the simplest fix and gives the best continuity, because one render has one continuous camera move, one lighting setup and one audio track. These are the real maximum durations on VdoBloom's Text to Video and Image to Video tabs:

A long single clip needs a long prompt. If you write one line and ask for 30 seconds, the model has nothing to fill the time with, and you'll get idle motion or a loop. Write it in beats: what happens in the first few seconds, what changes in the middle, and how it ends. Draft at 4 to 6 seconds at 480p first. Wan 3.0 costs 20 credits for 6 seconds at 480p, so a test is cheap before you commit to the full length.

Option 2: generate several shots and join them

This is how almost every 1-minute or longer AI video is made, including the ones that go viral. It works best when you treat it like editing a film and not one continuous take.

1. Write a shot list. Six 5-second shots make 30 seconds, and twelve make a minute. Give each shot one clear action.
2. Keep the look the same. Use the same reference image or character photo for every shot, repeat the same description of wardrobe and lighting, and keep one aspect ratio. Describe the character the same way, word for word, in every prompt.
3. Chain the shots with frames. Take the last frame of shot 1 (a screenshot from the player works) and use it as the first image of shot 2. 4. Cut on the action. A cut in the middle of a movement hides small differences between shots much better than a cut on a still frame.

Joining clips on the same model doesn't save money. On Seedance 2.5 six 5-second clips cost exactly the same as one 30-second clip, because billing is per second. It saves money when the shots can go on a cheaper model: six 5-second Seedance 2 Mini clips at 720p cost 102 credits in total (17 each).

What about "extend video" buttons?

Some tools continue an existing clip from its last second. Google Flow, for example, has an Extend option that adds footage to the end of a Veo clip. VdoBloom doesn't offer an extend button right now. The first-and-last-frame method above gives you a similar result with more control over where each shot ends.

Option 3: let a tool plan and stitch the clips

No mainstream model renders a minute or more in one pass as of September 2026. For 1 to 10 minutes:

What about looping, or slowing the clip down?

People also search "how to loop a video to make it longer". Looping works for backgrounds, ambient scenes and social posts meant to repeat, but viewers notice it quickly on anything with a person in it. Slowing a clip to 50 to 70 percent speed with optical-flow retiming adds a few seconds and can look cinematic. Past that it starts to warp. Both are editing tricks, not a real substitute for more footage.
