Kling or Seedance Says Image Not Supported or Too Large
Fix "file type not supported", "image too large" and size errors on Kling and Seedance image-to-video: formats, pixel limits and fixes.
"Image not supported" or "image too large" on Kling or Seedance almost always means one of three things: the file format is not JPEG, PNG, WebP or BMP (HEIC, GIF, TIFF, AVIF and JFIF are common culprits); the picture is too big in pixels or too small on one side (Seedance wants each side between 300 and 6,000 pixels); or the file is too large in megabytes for the upload box. Save the photo as a JPEG, keep it under 40 megapixels and 10 MB, and avoid very long, thin crops. On VdoBloom most of this is fixed for you on upload, and a request that fails after it starts is refunded automatically.

Quick facts
- Accepted by the providers: JPEG, PNG, WebP and BMP. VdoBloom converts other formats such as HEIC, GIF, TIFF and JFIF to an accepted one when you upload.
- Dimensions: Seedance and similar models reject images with a side under 300 or over 6,000 pixels. VdoBloom upscales images under 300 px and shrinks oversized ones to at most 4,096 px on the long side before sending them.
- Hard cap: photos over 40 megapixels are refused with "That photo is too large, at most 40 megapixels".
- File size: effect tabs accept images up to 10 MB; some creators allow 15 MB.
- Credits: rejected uploads are not charged, and a generation that fails at the provider is refunded automatically.
Why does Kling or Seedance reject my image?
| Error you see | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| File type not supported | iPhone HEIC, an animated GIF, a TIFF scan, AVIF or a .jfif file | Export as JPEG or PNG |
| Image too large (megapixels) | A camera RAW export or a stitched panorama over 40 MP | Resize to about 2,000 to 4,000 px on the long side |
| Image must be under 10 MB | A very high-quality PNG or an uncompressed export | Save as JPEG at 85 to 92% quality |
| Dimension or size error at generation time | A side under 300 px (a thumbnail or screenshot crop) or over 6,000 px | Use a larger original, or resize |
| Too long and thin | A banner or a phone screenshot of a long page | Crop closer to 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1 |
| Image could not be processed | A damaged file or one that was not fully downloaded | Open and re-save it, or download the original again |
How to fix it: step by step
- Check the format. On iPhone, photos are HEIC by default. Share the photo to Files as "Most Compatible", or take a screenshot of it, or set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible. On a computer, open the file and export or "Save as" JPEG.
- Check the pixel size. Right-click and view properties (Windows) or Get Info (Mac). If either side is over 6,000 px, or the total is over 40 megapixels (for example 8,000 by 6,000), resize it so the long side is about 2,048 to 4,096 px. Bigger does not give a sharper video; the models work at 480p to 1080p (4K on a few).
- Check the file size. If it is over 10 MB, re-save as JPEG. A 4,000 px JPEG is usually 2 to 5 MB.
- Check the shape. Very long, thin images are refused or stretched. Crop to the aspect ratio you want the video in: 9:16 for Reels and Shorts, 16:9 for YouTube, 1:1 for feeds.
- Check that it is a real photo file. A link copied from a web page, a WhatsApp preview or a half-downloaded image can be broken. Use the original.
- Upload again. On VdoBloom's Image to Video, the uploaded file is converted and resized before it goes to Kling or Seedance, so a fresh upload of the fixed file normally works.
The error came after I pressed Generate. Did I lose credits?
No. If the model provider rejects the image once the job has started, the job fails and the credits are refunded to your balance automatically. You can see the charge and the refund in Settings, Credits. If a job seems stuck instead, see why an AI video gets stuck generating.
"Not supported" can also mean the content
Some rejections are not about the file at all. Kling and Seedance refuse certain content, such as images of real public figures, minors in unsafe contexts, or explicit material. Those messages usually mention policy or sensitive content rather than size or type. Changing the format will not help; use a different photo. For refusals, see why AI video generations fail.
Best settings for a photo you plan to animate
- JPEG, 2,000 to 4,000 px on the long side, under 5 MB.
- Already cropped to the video's aspect ratio, with the subject not cut off at the edges.
- Sharp, well lit, with the face or product clearly visible. A sharp source matters more than a big one.
FAQ
Why does Kling say my image is not supported?
Usually the format. Kling and Seedance accept JPEG, PNG, WebP and BMP. HEIC, GIF, TIFF, AVIF and JFIF files need converting first, which VdoBloom does automatically on upload.
What is the maximum image size for Seedance?
Seedance needs each side between 300 and 6,000 pixels. VdoBloom resizes uploads into a safe range (300 to 4,096 px) and refuses photos over 40 megapixels.
How do I reduce the size of an image for AI video?
Resize the long side to about 2,048 to 4,096 px and save as JPEG at 85 to 92% quality. That keeps it well under 10 MB without visible loss.
Can I upload iPhone HEIC photos?
On VdoBloom, yes: HEIC is converted when you upload. On other tools, export as JPEG first.
Does a bigger image give a better video?
No. The video is generated at 480p to 1080p (4K on a few models). A sharp, well-lit 2K photo works as well as a 50-megapixel one.
Am I charged when the image is rejected?
No. Rejected uploads cost nothing, and a job that fails at the provider is refunded automatically.
