MiniMax H3 vs Seedance 2.5: Which Should You Run?
MiniMax H3 vs Seedance 2.5 compared on duration, resolution, audio and real VdoBloom credit costs, plus which model to pick for each job.
MiniMax H3 and Seedance 2.5 are both audio-native video models, and they split on almost everything else. H3 animates a single still image with sound generated in the same pass, runs 4 to 15 seconds at 768P or 2K, and costs 15 credits a second at 768P. Seedance 2.5 runs 4 to 30 seconds, offers 480p, 720p and 1080p, accepts a text prompt, a starting image or two tagged reference images, and costs about 25.2 credits a second at 720p. Pick H3 when your source is one image and you want the cheapest audio-native render; pick Seedance 2.5 when you need a longer take, a cinema-wide 21:9 frame, or multi-reference control.

The short version
The decision usually comes down to a single hard constraint rather than a general sense of which is better. VdoBloom does not rank models on subjective output quality, so this comparison sticks to what the spec sheets and credit tables actually say.
- Longest take: Seedance 2.5, at 30 seconds against H3’s 15.
- Cheapest audio-native render at a matched length: H3, at 75 credits for a 5-second 768P clip against 126 credits for 5 seconds at 720p on Seedance 2.5.
- Framing control: Seedance 2.5, with six aspect ratios including 21:9. H3 follows the shape of the image you upload.
- Input flexibility: Seedance 2.5, which starts from text, one image, or two images tagged @Image1 and @Image2.
- Content filtering: Seedance 2.5 carries VdoBloom’s HOT label; H3 carries MODERATE, which is stricter.
What each model is
MiniMax H3 Image-to-Video takes a still image and animates it while generating synchronized audio in the same pass. Duration runs from 4 to 15 seconds in one-second steps, at either 768P or 2K. There is no independent aspect-ratio setting: the output follows the shape of your uploaded frame, which means the crop you upload is the crop you get. VdoBloom rates the content filter MODERATE and lists a 4.9 catalog rating, the highest among the MiniMax Hailuo family. It is a proprietary hosted model, not open weights.
Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance’s newest Seedance release on VdoBloom. Clips run 4 to 30 seconds in one-second steps, at 480p, 720p or 1080p — the 1080p tier was added with 10-bit colour in August 2026. There is no 4K tier. Six aspect ratios are available including 21:9 cinema-wide, and you can generate from a text prompt, a starting image, or up to two reference images tagged @Image1 and @Image2 in your prompt. Audio generates by default and does not add to the price shown. The content filter is rated HOT, VdoBloom’s most permissive tier; there is a Seedance 2.5 walkthrough if you want the full settings tour.
Side by side
| Spec | MiniMax H3 Image-to-Video | Seedance 2.5 |
|---|---|---|
| Input | One still image | Text prompt, one starting image, or up to two reference images |
| Duration | 4–15 seconds, one-second steps | 4–30 seconds, one-second steps |
| Resolution | 768P or 2K | 480p, 720p or 1080p |
| Aspect ratios | Follows the source image — no separate control | Six, including 21:9 |
| Audio | Generated with the picture in every render | Generated by default, included in the price |
| Credit rate | 15 credits/second at 768P, 24 at 2K | About 11.2 credits/second at 480p, 25.2 at 720p, 63.2 at 1080p |
| Content label | MODERATE | HOT |
| Cheapest render | 60 credits (4 seconds, 768P) | 45 credits (4 seconds, 480p) |
One caution on the resolution row: the two models label their tiers differently. Treat 768P and 2K, and 480p, 720p and 1080p, as each vendor’s own labels rather than interchangeable rungs on one ladder, and compare on the workflow you need.
What a 5-second clip costs on each
Five seconds is the most common test length, so it is worth pricing directly. These totals come from VdoBloom’s own credit tables, and the exact number for your settings is always shown before you generate.
| Setting | Credits for 5 seconds |
|---|---|
| MiniMax H3, 768P | 75 |
| MiniMax H3, 2K | 120 |
| Seedance 2.5, 480p | 56 |
| Seedance 2.5, 720p | 126 |
| Seedance 2.5, 1080p | 316 |
Read that table by resolution family rather than across the whole grid. At the entry tier, Seedance 2.5’s 480p rate is the lower number. At the middle tier, H3’s 768P at 75 credits undercuts Seedance 2.5’s 720p at 126 for the same duration. At the top tier the gap widens sharply, because Seedance 2.5’s 1080p rate is roughly 2.5 times its 720p rate while H3’s 2K rate is 1.6 times its 768P rate.
Longer clips change the picture. A full 15-second 2K H3 render is 360 credits. Seedance 2.5 reaches 30 seconds, which H3 cannot do at all — a 30-second 720p take is 756 credits. If your scene needs more than one beat, Seedance 2.5 is the only one of the two that can hold it in a single generation.
Seedance 2.5’s reference-video mode, and why it can cost more
Seedance 2.5 has an optional mode where you attach a short motion-reference clip alongside your prompt, and VdoBloom bills those jobs at a lower per-second rate: about 6.8 credits a second at 480p, 15.2 at 720p and 38 at 1080p, against 11.2, 25.2 and 63.2 for plain generation.
The catch is that reference-video jobs are billed on input-plus-output duration. The seconds in your uploaded clip are added to the seconds you are generating, and both are charged at that lower rate. A 5-second 720p output built from a 10-second reference clip works out to roughly 228 credits, because you are paying for 15 seconds of processing, not 5. VdoBloom measures the reference clip’s real length automatically and caps billable input at 30 seconds, but every second under that cap still counts. If you are only animating a still photo, skip the reference upload: plain image-to-video is priced the same as text-to-video, with no surcharge. H3 has no equivalent mode — its price is purely a function of duration and resolution.
Audio: same idea, different mechanics
Both models generate sound, which is still uncommon enough to be worth stating plainly. H3 generates audio together with the animation in every render rather than as an optional add-on, and Seedance 2.5 generates audio by default at no extra charge. Neither exposes an audio toggle that changes the price. The practical difference is timing: H3’s audio is bound to the picture in the same pass, which suits a sound effect that has to land on a specific beat, while Seedance 2.5 gives you longer takes to fill with ambience.
Content filtering
Worth planning around rather than discovering mid-project. H3 carries VdoBloom’s MODERATE badge — standard filtering, less strict than the STRICT tier used by Kling and Veo, but explicit material is still refused. Seedance 2.5 carries HOT, the platform’s most permissive tier, inherited from the wider Seedance family. In practice fewer everyday creative prompts get declined on Seedance 2.5. Neither is a guarantee of unrestricted output.
Which to run for which job
- Animating a product shot or a key visual without changing its framing: H3 Image-to-Video. It inherits your image’s shape, so a carefully cropped still stays exactly as framed, and the 4-second 768P test costs 60 credits.
- A scene that needs to develop over more than a single beat: Seedance 2.5, because H3 stops at 15 seconds.
- Letterboxed cinematic framing or a full-bleed vertical banner from a text prompt: Seedance 2.5, which offers 21:9 and five other ratios. H3 Image-to-Video cannot choose a ratio at all.
- Two subjects in one scene: Seedance 2.5, using @Image1 and @Image2 tagging in the prompt.
- The cheapest audio-native result at a mid-tier resolution: H3 at 768P.
- 4K output: neither of these two. Seedance 2.5 tops out at 1080p and H3 at 2K; the older Seedance 2 is the only model in that family reaching 4K.
Testing both without wasting credits
Both models bill by the second and scale the bill with resolution, so the cheapest way to settle the question is to run the same concept at the lowest tier of each. A 4-second 768P H3 clip is 60 credits; a 4-second 480p Seedance 2.5 clip is 45. That is 105 credits to see both models interpret one idea, before you commit to a final render at a longer duration or a higher tier.
One habit cuts waste further: write one clear action per prompt rather than stacking several instructions, since a single described action tracks far more reliably than a paragraph. Our guide to AI video prompt mistakes covers the wording that trips models up. If a generation fails outright, VdoBloom refunds the credits automatically, so a failed attempt costs you the wait rather than the balance.
Frequently asked questions
Which is cheaper, MiniMax H3 or Seedance 2.5?
It depends entirely on the tier you compare. At 5 seconds, H3 at 768P is 75 credits and Seedance 2.5 at 480p is 56, so Seedance 2.5 is lower at entry level. At mid-tier, H3’s 768P at 75 credits is lower than Seedance 2.5’s 720p at 126. At the top tier Seedance 2.5’s 1080p runs 316 credits for the same 5 seconds against H3’s 2K at 120.
Do both of these models generate audio?
Yes. H3 generates synchronized audio together with the animation in every render. Seedance 2.5 generates audio by default, and the credit cost shown before you generate already includes it. Neither treats audio as a separate paid pass on VdoBloom.
Can Seedance 2.5 make a clip longer than 15 seconds?
Yes — it runs up to 30 seconds in one-second steps from a 4-second minimum. That is the clearest capability gap between the two: H3 stops at 15 seconds, so anything longer has to be generated on Seedance 2.5 or stitched from multiple H3 clips. A full 30-second 720p Seedance 2.5 take costs 756 credits.
Why does MiniMax H3 not let me choose an aspect ratio?
H3 Image-to-Video inherits the shape of the image you upload, so there is no separate ratio control to set. That is simpler when your source is already framed the way you want, and it means getting the crop right before uploading matters more than it would on a model with its own ratio menu. If the output came back the wrong shape, the fix is a re-cropped source image, not a setting.
Which one should I start with if I am new to both?
With a source image, start with H3 at 768P: 60 credits for a 4-second test. Working from a written prompt, start with Seedance 2.5 at 480p, where a 4-second clip is 45 credits. Both are priced per second, so keep first tests short. Full rates are on the pricing page.
You can run either model from the same workspace — MiniMax H3 Image-to-Video for stills that need sound, and Seedance 2.5 for longer takes and multi-reference control. New accounts start with 10 free credits and pay-as-you-go credit packs that never expire, with the exact cost shown before every generation.
