MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video: Image to Video Online
Bottom line
MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video takes up to 9 reference photos of people, products or scenes and writes a 4-15 second clip with sound at 768P or 2K; 5 seconds at 768P is 20 credits. Upload a starting frame, choose MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video in the Image to Video tool, and animate it on VdoBloom — the credit price appears before every generation.
MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video builds a 4 to 15 second clip with sound from up to 9 reference photos and a prompt. The photos guide how each person, product or scene looks; the first frame itself is generated, so the model composes the shot and your prompt decides who does what, where and how the camera moves. On VdoBloom it is billed per second at the same rate as the other two H3 modes: 4 credits a second at 768P and 6 at 2K, with no minimum beyond the 4-second floor. A 5-second 768P clip is 20 credits, 10 seconds is 40, and a full 15-second 2K clip is 90. The first 5 reference photos carry no extra charge, and VdoBloom only sends the photos you actually attach.
Unlike H3 Image-to-Video, this mode has an aspect-ratio setting: 16:9 (the default), 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 or 21:9, chosen independently of the photos' shapes. No MiniMax account, API key or subscription is needed. A one-time 300-credit pack is $19.50 and those credits never expire, or the Lite plan is $15 a month for 300 credits that reset each billing cycle. The exact cost is shown before you generate, and a failed job is refunded automatically.
The clip above is MiniMax H3's model-picker preview, generated on VdoBloom with this model. Below are the spec table, the cost of typical multi-reference jobs, how references differ from a first frame, how this mode compares with H3 Image-to-Video and H3 Text-to-Video, a price comparison against Wan 2.7 Reference-to-Video and Seedance 2.5, the two-person effect tabs that run on it, prompting notes for Image 1 and Image 2, and the limits to know first.
MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video specs at a glance
Every row comes from VdoBloom's live model configuration, the generation endpoint and the credit table. The detail that separates this mode from H3 Image-to-Video: the photos are references, not the first frame, so the clip can open on a composition none of them shows, and you choose the aspect ratio yourself.

What MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video costs for typical jobs
The rate matches the other two H3 modes (seconds times 4 at 768P, seconds times 6 at 2K) and the number of photos does not change it; the first 5 are free and VdoBloom never sends more than you attach. The jobs below are examples, not presets; any whole second from 4 to 15 works at either resolution. Dollar figures use the Lite plan rate of $0.05 a credit. New accounts get 10 free credits, which does not reach the 16-credit minimum, so plan on a top-up before your first render.
| Job | Settings | Credits | At $0.05 a credit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Identity test with two photos | 4 s, 768P | 16 | $0.80 |
| Two-person effect clip (Couple Dance, Handshake) | 5 s, 768P | 20 | $1.00 |
| Product plus model in one scene | 6 s, 768P | 24 | $1.20 |
| Three-reference scene at the higher resolution | 6 s, 2K | 36 | $1.80 |

How reference photos differ from a first frame, and how to prepare them
In H3 Image-to-Video your photo becomes frame one and the clip continues from it. Here the photos never appear as a frame. MiniMax reads them for appearance, the face, hair and outfit of a person, the shape and label of a product, the look of a place, and then generates the opening frame from your prompt. That is why two people from two different photos can stand in one shot, and why the camera can start somewhere none of the photos were taken from.
The trade is that nothing is pinned. If the prompt does not say what to keep, the model decides, so the photos and the prompt have to work together.
- Attach one clear photo per subject first; add more angles of the same subject only when it will turn or move a lot.
- Order matters for the prompt: the first upload is Image 1, the second is Image 2, and that is how you refer to them.
- Use sharp, well-lit photos with the subject filling the frame; a small or blurred face gives the model less identity to hold.
- Choose the aspect ratio for the deliverable in the generator (9:16 for Reels, 16:9 for YouTube); the photos can be any shape.
- Photos of real people need that person's consent before you put them in a clip.
Reference-to-video, image-to-video or text-to-video: which MiniMax H3 mode to pick
The three H3 variants share the price list, the 4 to 15 second range and the 768P/2K tiers. They split on what controls the picture: an exact first frame, several appearance references with a free composition, or nothing but the prompt.
| If you... | Use | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Need two or more subjects from different photos in one clip | H3 Reference-to-Video (this page) | Up to 9 photos, each addressed as Image 1, Image 2 and so on |
| Need the clip to open on exactly your photo | H3 Image-to-Video | The photo is sent as the first frame; this mode generates it |
| Have a subject photo but need a ratio the photo is not | H3 Reference-to-Video (this page) | Six selectable ratios; Image-to-Video follows the photo's shape |
| Have no source image | H3 Text-to-Video | It needs only a prompt |
| Care only about price | Any of the three | All are 4 credits a second at 768P and 6 at 2K |

MiniMax H3 vs Wan 2.7 Reference-to-Video and Seedance 2.5 for multi-photo clips
All three take more than one reference photo and appear in the Image to Video tab. From the credit table: H3 is the cheapest of the three per second, Wan 2.7 Reference-to-Video is 32 credits for 5 seconds at 720p and 64 for 10, and Seedance 2.5 is 126 credits for 5 seconds at 720p with its reference photos tagged @Image1 and @Image2. Wan 2.7 offers 5 or 10 second lengths at 720p or 1080p; H3 offers any second from 4 to 15, a 2K tier and up to 9 photos. 768P and 720p are not identical, so read the price columns as 720p-class.
| Model | Reference photos | Lengths | Resolutions | 5 s, 720p-class | 10 s, 720p-class | Audio |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video | Up to 9, as Image 1, Image 2... | 4-15 s, any second | 768P, 2K | 20 cr | 40 cr | Generated with the clip |
| Wan 2.7 Reference-to-Video | Several | 5 or 10 s | 720p, 1080p | 32 cr | 64 cr | See model page |
| Seedance 2.5 | Tagged @Image1, @Image2 | 4-15 s, any second | 480p to 1080p | 126 cr | See model page | Native, included |

Where to run MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video on VdoBloom
No tab opens on this model by default, so you select it. The model, the 4 to 15 second range and the per-second rate are the same everywhere it appears.
- Image to Video tab: open the MiniMax H3 group in the model picker and choose H3 Reference-to-Video. Attach up to 9 photos, write the prompt using Image 1, Image 2 and so on, set duration (4-15 s), resolution (768P or 2K) and aspect ratio, check the credit figure, then generate.
- Two-person effect tabs: Couple Dance, Lift & Carry, Bridal Carry, Fight, Carry Me and Handshake run on this model in 2-photo mode. Photo 1 goes in as Image 1 and photo 2 as Image 2, and the tab's own prompt describes the action between them.
- Reference video and reference audio exist on the provider side but are not exposed on VdoBloom; photos plus a prompt are the whole input.

Prompting with Image 1 and Image 2
Refer to the photos in plain language by their upload order: the woman in Image 1, the jacket in Image 2, the cafe in Image 3. Then write the scene the way you would brief a director: who does what, where it happens, how the camera moves (slow push-in, orbit, static two-shot) and what is heard, including any line of dialogue. Identity holds best when the prompt says so outright: keep each person's face, hair and outfit exactly as in their photo. Leave that out and the model is free to restyle them.
Because the first frame is generated, the prompt owns the composition. Say where each subject stands and how close the camera is, or the opening shot may crop out the person you cared about. One main action per clip reads cleanly; several unrelated actions in 5 seconds blur together. For 10 to 15 second clips describe the motion in stages. Test at 4 seconds and 768P for 16 credits with the final photos attached; once both identities hold, re-run at the length, resolution and ratio you will deliver.
Limits and honest caveats
Photos and a prompt are the whole input: no first or last frame to pin, and no reference video or audio on VdoBloom even though the provider lists them. If you need the clip to open on exactly your picture, use H3 Image-to-Video at the same price. Up to 9 photos are accepted, but more references do not raise the price and do not guarantee a better clip; the first 5 are free and every photo is another thing the model has to reconcile. The ceiling is 15 seconds. 2K costs 50% more per second than 768P, so drafting at 2K is the easy way to overspend. Within VdoBloom's reference models H3 is the lowest per-second rate (20 credits for 5 seconds at 768P against 32 for Wan 2.7 Reference-to-Video at 720p and 126 for Seedance 2.5 at 720p), while Wan 2.7 adds a 1080p tier and Seedance 2.5 adds first and last frame control. The 10 free signup credits do not cover the 16-credit minimum. H3 is a proprietary MiniMax model that VdoBloom runs through its provider, KIE; if a job fails on the provider side the credits come back automatically.
VdoBloom does not rank models on subjective quality. Everything above is spec and price; whether H3 keeps your two faces recognisable in one shot is something a 16-credit 4-second test answers faster than any review.
What creators use MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video for
- Two people from two separate photos in one clip, which is how the Couple Dance, Lift & Carry, Bridal Carry, Fight, Carry Me and Handshake effect tabs use this model in 2-photo mode (with consent from everyone pictured).
- A product shot plus a model photo plus a location photo combined into one scene, with the packaging, the person and the setting each taken from its own reference.
- A character seen from several angles in several photos, so the model has more to hold onto than a single first frame when the subject turns or walks.
- Vertical 9:16 or wide 21:9 clips from landscape photos, since the aspect ratio is chosen in the generator rather than inherited from an upload.
How to use MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video on VdoBloom
- 1Open the Image to Video tool and select MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video from the model picker.
- 2Upload your starting image and describe the motion you want in the prompt.
- 3Choose your duration (4–15s), quality (768P/2K), aspect ratio, review the credit cost, and generate.
Frequently asked questions
What does MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video cost on VdoBloom?
4 credits per second at 768P and 6 credits per second at 2K, for any length from 4 to 15 seconds, regardless of how many photos you attach. A 5-second 768P clip is 20 credits, 10 seconds is 40 and 15 seconds is 60; at 2K those are 30, 60 and 90. At the Lite rate of $0.05 a credit, 20 credits is $1.00. The exact figure is shown before you generate.
How many reference photos can I upload?
Up to 9 per clip: people, products or scenes. The first 5 add nothing to the price and VdoBloom only sends the photos you attach. One clear photo per subject is usually enough; add more angles of the same subject only when it will turn or move a lot.
Is my photo used as the first frame?
No. The photos are appearance references and the first frame is generated from your prompt, which is what lets two people from two photos share one shot and lets you pick the aspect ratio. If the clip must open on exactly your picture, use MiniMax H3 Image-to-Video, which sends the photo as the first frame at the same price.
How do I refer to the photos in the prompt?
By upload order, in plain language: Image 1, Image 2, Image 3. Say who does what, the setting, the camera move and any dialogue or sound, and add that each person's face, hair and outfit should stay exactly as in their photo. That line is what keeps identities stable.
Which effect tabs use MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video?
The two-person effects in 2-photo mode: Couple Dance, Lift & Carry, Bridal Carry, Fight, Carry Me and Handshake. Photo 1 goes in as Image 1 and photo 2 as Image 2, and the tab supplies the action prompt. A 5-second 768P clip from those tabs is 20 credits.
Can I choose the aspect ratio?
Yes. 16:9 is the default, and 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 and 21:9 are available, independent of the photos' shapes. This is the main control H3 Reference-to-Video has that H3 Image-to-Video does not.
Does MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video add sound?
Yes. The clip comes back with sound generated alongside the picture, and there is no separate audio toggle or surcharge. Describe what should be heard in the prompt, including any spoken line.
Can I add a reference video or reference audio?
Not on VdoBloom. The provider lists those inputs, but VdoBloom exposes photos plus a prompt only. For a pinned end frame, Seedance 2.5 accepts first and last frames alongside its tagged reference photos.
MiniMax H3 vs Wan 2.7 Reference-to-Video: which should I use for a multi-photo clip?
MiniMax H3 on price and flexibility: 5 seconds at 768P is 20 credits against 32 for Wan 2.7 Reference-to-Video at 720p, and H3 offers any length from 4 to 15 seconds, up to 9 photos and a 2K tier. Wan 2.7 Reference-to-Video if you want its 1080p tier (48 credits for 5 seconds) or prefer its result on your photos. Seedance 2.5 is 126 credits for 5 seconds at 720p and adds first and last frame control.
Can I try MiniMax H3 Reference-to-Video for free?
Not on the signup credits alone. New accounts get 10 free credits and the cheapest H3 render, 4 seconds at 768P, is 16. A one-time 300-credit pack is $19.50 and never expires, which covers fifteen 5-second 768P clips (300 credits) exactly.
