What changed between 2 and 2.5

Seedance 2 is ByteDance’s flagship on VdoBloom: 4 to 15 seconds in one-second steps, four resolution tiers topping out at 4K, six aspect ratios including cinema-wide 21:9 plus an adaptive option, and three input modes — prompt only, first frame with an optional last frame, or multimodal references that can include images, video and audio.

Seedance 2.5 keeps all of that architecture and re-points it at length. Duration runs every whole second from 4 to 30, which makes it the longest single generation on VdoBloom — the next longest clip on the platform is 16 seconds. Resolution tops out at 1080p, which the provider shipped in 10-bit colour in August 2026. Native audio is generated by default, and because pricing is strictly linear per second, sound adds nothing to the bill.

One inherited detail is easy to miss: Seedance 2.5’s badge in the picker is NEW rather than a content-filter label, so it falls back to the Seedance family default of HOT, while Seedance 2 carries an explicit MODERATE label. In practice that means 2.5 sits on the family’s more flexible filtering tier and Seedance 2 on the stricter one. Explicit and illegal content is refused on both.

One credit is $0.05 at the Lite rate ($15 for 300 credits), so credits convert directly. The price line is simple: Seedance 2 is the cheaper model per second at 480p, 720p and 1080p alike — 612 credits against 948 for a 15 second 1080p shot. So pay for 2.5 when you need what only it does: more than 15 seconds in one take, or 10-bit 1080p colour.

Thirty seconds in one take, and why that matters

Most “long” AI video is several short clips glued together, and stitching drifts: the subject’s face, wardrobe and lighting shift a little at every cut. Six stitched 5 second clips are six chances for that to happen. One 30 second Seedance 2.5 render is zero.

Run the numbers at 720p. Six separate 5 second Seedance 2 clips cost 82 credits each, 492 in total, and you still have to edit them together and accept the drift. A single 30 second Seedance 2.5 take is 756 credits, about 54 percent more, for one continuous shot with native audio. If continuity is the point — a product demo, a walk-and-talk, a dance sequence — that premium buys something stitching cannot. If the deliverable is six unrelated cuts anyway, stitching is fine and cheaper.

When 4K actually earns its price

Seedance 2’s 4K tier is 832 credits for 10 seconds from a prompt or a still. A reference video is billed on its own seconds plus the output’s, at a lower 4K rate: 768 credits with a 5-second reference, 1,024 with a 10-second one. That is real money, and 4K earns it in exactly three situations: the clip will be projected or displayed large, it will be graded and needs the headroom, or it will be reframed and cropped in the edit. For social, web loops and paid ads that get recompressed on upload, 1080p on either model is the better spend — and at 1080p, Seedance 2 is the cheaper of the two when 15 seconds is enough.

A worked workflow

Suppose the brief is a 20 second continuous 1080p vertical clip with sound. Only Seedance 2.5 can render it in one take, at 1,264 credits ($63.20) — too expensive to guess at.

One behaviour worth knowing in Image to Video: the photo you upload becomes the job’s first frame, which forces the aspect ratio to adaptive — the source photo’s shape decides the output shape, so crop before you upload. Hero and trailer work destined for 4K: Seedance 2. It is the only one of the pair with a 4K tier, and at 4K a short reference video lowers the bill: 768 credits for 10 seconds from a 5-second reference, against 832.

Standard 1080p deliverables up to 15 seconds: Seedance 2, on price — about 40.8 credits per second against 63.2. Pick 2.5 at 1080p only when the 10-bit colour matters for grading.
