Recraft V4: How to Use It (Features and Examples)
Recraft V4 on VdoBloom: 12 credits per image, exact pixel dimensions and hex-locked brand colours, plus V4 Pro at 2K and vector output.
Recraft V4 is a design-oriented text-to-image model on VdoBloom that costs 12 credits per image, and its difference from a photography model is control: instead of choosing an aspect ratio you choose one of 14 exact pixel dimensions, and instead of describing colours in words you can lock them as hex values through a brand palette and background colour. V4 Pro is the same model at a 2K ceiling for 22 credits, and two vector variants convert raster images into scalable SVG artwork.

What Recraft V4 is
Recraft has built its reputation on design-grade image tooling rather than on photorealism, and V4 is the version installed on VdoBloom’s image generator as Recraft V4 and Recraft V4 Pro. Where most models in the roster ask you to pick 16:9 or 2:3 and get on with it, Recraft asks you to pick a pixel size: 1024x1024, 1344x768, 832x1344 and eleven more. That is an odd-feeling constraint until you have tried to place a generated image into a fixed slot in a layout, at which point it becomes the reason you opened the model.
The second control is colour. Recraft exposes a brand colour palette and a background colour that take specific values, so “make it match our brand” can be replaced by the actual hex codes. The output is still raster: V4 generates new images from text and does not vectorise anything. Vectorisation is a separate variant, Recraft V4 Vector, in the image-to-image side of the platform, which converts a raster image into SVG paths and fills. VdoBloom’s model picker scores V4 at 4.2 and V4 Pro at 4.3, and both carry the HOT content label.
What it is good at
- Fixed dimensions. Fourteen exact pixel sizes mean the output drops into a design slot without resampling or cropping.
- Brand colour control. Hex palette and background colour values replace adjectives like “brand blue” with something a model can actually hit.
- Graphic, designed imagery. Posters, packaging comps, pattern work and editorial illustration come back looking composed rather than photographed.
- Long prompts. Up to 10,000 characters, which is the highest limit of the image models in the roster and enough to specify a layout in a paragraph.
- Vector output on demand. The vector variants produce editable paths for logos, icons and anything that must scale from a favicon to a billboard.
Credits, dimensions and tiers
| Model | Credits per image | Output | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Recraft V4 | 12 | Raster, 1K, 14 pixel dimensions | Design work where the size must be exact |
| Recraft V4 Pro | 22 | Raster, 2K, 14 pixel dimensions up to 3072x1536 | The same job at twice the resolution |
| Recraft V4 Vector | 14 | SVG from an input image, 1K dimension set | Turning a raster design into editable paths |
| Recraft V4 Pro Vector | 24 | SVG from an input image, 2K dimension set | Higher-detail vectorisation |
The dimension ladders match: V4 and V4 Vector share the 1K set, V4 Pro and V4 Pro Vector share the 2K set. A sample of each:
| Ratio | V4 (1K) | V4 Pro (2K) |
|---|---|---|
| 1:1 | 1024x1024 | 2048x2048 |
| 4:3 | 1216x896 | 2432x1792 |
| 3:4 | 896x1216 | 1792x2432 |
| 3:2 | 1280x832 | 2560x1664 |
| 2:3 | 832x1280 | 1664x2560 |
| 16:9 | 1344x768 | 2688x1536 |
| 9:16 | 768x1344 | 1536x2688 |
| 2:1 | 1536x768 | 3072x1536 |
The full set also includes 5:4, 4:5, 6:10, 10:14 and 14:10, which is more framing options than the aspect-ratio pickers elsewhere on the platform offer. New accounts get 10 free credits and no card is required, and the cost is shown before each generation. Pricing lists the plans and the one-time packs that never expire.
Six example prompts
- Brand-consistent poster. “A flat-illustration poster for a coffee subscription. Cream background, a single dark brown cup drawn with clean flat shapes and a thin outline, generous margins, no text. Limited palette, print-ready, 2:3.”
- Pattern for fabric or packaging. “A seamless repeating pattern of small abstract leaves in three flat greens on an off-white ground, evenly spaced in a half-drop repeat, no gradients, no shadows, tileable edges.”
- Packaging comp. “A matte cardboard box for a skincare bar, front-facing on a plain background, minimal geometric label panel in two colours, soft shadow beneath the box, studio light, no readable text.”
- Editorial illustration. “An editorial illustration of a person working at a desk seen from above, built from flat geometric shapes in a muted five-colour palette, textured paper feel, lots of negative space.”
- Icon set framing. “A single icon of a paper plane made from one continuous thick line with rounded ends, centred with even margins, flat single colour on white, no gradients or shading.”
- Deterministic size. “A wide website hero illustration of rolling hills as stacked flat shapes, two colour families, subtle grain, no text, no people, composed so the centre third can hold a headline.” Run it at 2688x1536 on V4 Pro so it matches the page slot exactly.
When you use the colour controls, specify the palette values in the prompt only as a description of the design and set the actual hex codes through the palette and background fields — that is what they exist for, and it is more reliable than writing a colour name and hoping it lands.
Limits worth knowing
- No aspect-ratio picker. Sizes come from the fixed dimension list, so an unusual framing is a no.
- V4 is text-only. It generates new raster images from a prompt; it does not take an input image to edit. Vectorising an existing image is the vector variant’s job.
- Resolution ceiling is 1K on V4 and 2K on V4 Pro. There is no 4K tier, so large-format output means upscaling afterwards.
- No negative prompt or seed control in the interface.
- Photorealism is not the point. For a convincing photograph of a person or product, the Seedream, GPT Image and Nano Banana models in the roster are the better first choice.
Recraft V4 or another model?
| Model | Credits per image | Reach for it when |
|---|---|---|
| Recraft V4 | 12 | You need exact dimensions and locked brand colours for a design |
| Recraft V4 Pro | 22 | The same, at a 2K ceiling for print or large placement |
| Seedream 5 Lite | 6 | You want photographic realism and up to 14 reference images |
| GPT Image 2 | 3 at 1K, 5 at 2K, 8 at 4K | You need legible text inside the image at a low price |
Text rendering and exact sizes are the two things design work usually needs, and they rarely come from the same model. The platform’s guide to models for text inside images covers the first, and making a logo with AI is the natural next step if you plan to take a Recraft mark into the vector variant.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Recraft V4 cost on VdoBloom?
12 credits per image for V4 at 1K, 22 for V4 Pro at 2K, 14 for the vector variant and 24 for V4 Pro Vector. Costs are shown before each generation, and new accounts start with 10 free credits.
Can Recraft V4 make vector files?
Not the base model — V4 generates raster images from text only. Vectorisation is handled by Recraft V4 Vector and V4 Pro Vector, which take an image and convert it into SVG paths and fills you can scale without soft edges.
How do the brand colours work?
Through a colour palette and a background colour control rather than prompt wording. You supply the specific values and the model applies them, which makes matching an existing brand palette far more reliable than asking for “our green” in the prompt.
Why can’t I choose an aspect ratio?
Because the model is dimension-driven by design. Fourteen exact pixel sizes replace the usual ratio list, which is what makes the output drop straight into a layout slot. Pick the pixel size you need rather than a ratio you will later crop.
Is Recraft V4 good at text inside images?
It is stronger on composition and colour discipline than on long strings of text. Short labels and simple headings render more reliably than paragraphs. If text is the point of the image, compare the models in the text-in-images roundup before committing.
Open the image generator, choose Recraft V4, and start by picking the pixel dimension your layout actually needs rather than the largest size on the list — the fixed sizes are the feature. Lock your palette through the colour controls, keep the prompt to a described layout rather than a scene, and move up to Recraft V4 Pro only when the design is settled and needs the 2K output. The pricing page has the credit details, and if you are building a brand system rather than a single image, the logo guide shows where the vector variants fit in.
