Seedance 2.5 vs Seedance 2: duration against resolution

The version numbers make this look like an upgrade. It is not. Seedance 2.5 and Seedance 2 sit next to each other in the same model list — in Text to Video, in Image to Video and on the Seedance Effects tab — because they trade against each other: 2.5 buys you length and takes away resolution, 2 keeps the resolution and caps the length.

Concretely, Seedance 2.5 runs any whole-second duration from 4 to 30 seconds at 480p, 720p or — since August 2026 — 1080p. Seedance 2 runs 4 to 15 seconds and offers 480p, 720p, 1080p and 4K. A 30-second 1080p clip is now a Seedance 2.5 exclusive (1,896 credits); a 4K clip of any length is still a Seedance 2 exclusive.

The credits favour Seedance 2 at every resolution the two share: five seconds at 720p is 82 credits on Seedance 2 against 126 on Seedance 2.5, and fifteen is 244 against 378. At 1080p Seedance 2.5 bills 63.2 credits per second (316 for 5 seconds, 948 for 15) against roughly 40.8 on Seedance 2 (204 and 612). So 2 is the cheaper model for any clip it can make, and 2.5 is what you pay for when the clip has to run past 15 seconds.

How it works

  1. 1.Answer the length question first

    If the shot has to run longer than 15 seconds without a cut, the comparison is over — Seedance 2.5 does it, up to 30 seconds (WAN 3.0 is the only other model on VdoBloom that does). If everything you make is 15 seconds or shorter, 2.5 has nothing to offer you that 2 does not. Either model runs from a written prompt in Text to Video or from an uploaded photo in Image to Video, so the workflow is not the tiebreaker here — the length is.

  2. 2.Answer the resolution question second

    If the deliverable is 4K, use Seedance 2 — that tier is its alone, at 416 credits for 5 seconds. For 1080p both models now qualify: Seedance 2 is the cheaper one up to 15 seconds (204 credits for 5 seconds against 316), and Seedance 2.5 is the only one that can run it for 30 seconds.

  3. 3.When both fit, take Seedance 2 — it is the cheaper render

    For anything from 4 to 15 seconds, Seedance 2 wins on price at every single length and resolution — ten seconds at 720p is 163 credits against 252, and fifteen at 1080p is 612 against 948. So pay the 2.5 rate when you are buying duration; take Seedance 2 for clips of 15 seconds or less, or for 4K.

  4. 4.Cost the 30-second option against two shorter clips

    One 30-second Seedance 2.5 clip at 720p is 756 credits. Two 15-second Seedance 2 clips at the same resolution are 488 together. If your edit can carry a cut at the halfway point, the split is cheaper — and it is the only route to 4K. If the shot must be continuous, pay the 756, or 1,896 for the 1080p version.

  5. 5.Draft at 480p on whichever you picked, then re-render

    Both models drop to 480p, which is the cheap way to check that the prompt and your photos work before you commit. A 30-second 480p test on Seedance 2.5 is 336 credits against 756 at 720p; a 15-second 480p test on Seedance 2 is 113 against 244. Re-run the approved take at the delivery resolution.
