GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst: AI Image Generator Online
Bottom line
GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst: OpenAI's precision 2.5 variant at 3, 5 or 8 credits for 1K, 2K or 4K, the same price as Flare; 10 free signup credits cover three 1K images. Pick GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst in the Text to Image tool, write your prompt, and pay per image in credits — the price is visible before you generate.

Is GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst free? Partly: every new VdoBloom account gets 10 free credits, and a 1K Sunburst image costs 3, so you can make three images before paying anything (or two at 2K, or one at 4K). After that it is 3 credits at 1K, 5 at 2K and 8 at 4K per image, which is $0.15, $0.25 and $0.40 at the Lite plan rate of $0.05 a credit. A one-time 300-credit pack is $19.50 and those credits never expire; no subscription is needed.
Sunburst is one of two variants OpenAI released as GPT Image 2.5 on 8 September 2026. VdoBloom's service describes Flare as the fast default and Sunburst as the variant that trades latency for edit precision. The important part for your budget: both cost exactly the same at every resolution, so Sunburst is not a premium tier. This page is the text-to-image side, with prompts up to 20,000 characters, 13 aspect ratios including auto and 1K, 2K or 4K output. It suits final-pass images where layout, detail and on-image text matter more than turnaround.
The sections below carry the spec table, the credit table, the free-credit maths, a comparison with Flare, GPT Image 2 and Nano Banana 2.1, the one resolution rule that applies (four unusual ratios are held to 1K), where it runs on the site and its limits.
GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst specs at a glance
Everything here comes from VdoBloom's GPT Image 2.5 service and credit table for the gpt-image-2-5-sunburst-text-to-image model. The service notes were checked against the live provider API on 12 September 2026, which is why the ratio list differs from the provider's own documentation.

Is GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst free?
The honest answer is: free for a few images, then paid. VdoBloom gives every new account 10 free credits. On Sunburst that is three 1K images (9 credits), two 2K images (10 credits) or one 4K image (8 credits). There is no daily free allowance after that, and VdoBloom does not run a free Sunburst tier. When you need more, a one-time 300-credit pack is $19.50 and does not expire, or the Lite plan is $15 a month for 300 credits that reset each billing cycle.
To get the most from the free credits, leave the ratio on auto and the resolution on 1K while you work out the prompt, then spend the rest on one 2K or 4K version of the prompt you keep.
Sunburst vs Flare vs GPT Image 2 vs Nano Banana 2.1
These sit next to each other in the Image Generator. Sunburst and Flare are the same release with the same inputs and the same price; VdoBloom's service describes the difference as latency against precision, and VdoBloom does not publish a quality ranking between them. Since a test costs the same on either, the practical way to choose is to run your prompt on both at 1K. GPT Image 2 is the older release at the same price with stricter resolution rules. Nano Banana 2.1 is cheaper at 2K and 4K.
| Model | 1K | 2K | 4K | 1:1 at 4K | Ratios | Editing refs (I2I) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst | 3 cr | 5 cr | 8 cr | Yes | 13 incl. auto | Up to 16 |
| GPT Image 2.5 Flare | 3 cr | 5 cr | 8 cr | Yes | 13 incl. auto | Up to 16 |
| GPT Image 2 | 3 cr | 5 cr | 8 cr | No | 11 incl. auto (auto = 1K) | Up to 10 |
| Nano Banana 2.1 | 3 cr | 4 cr | 6 cr | Yes | 15 incl. auto | Up to 14 on the same page |

The resolution rule: four ratios are 1K-only
GPT Image 2's two traps (auto forcing 1K, and 1:1 refusing 4K) are not carried over to 2.5. Sunburst renders 1:1 at 4K. The one rule it does have: 27:16, 16:27, 9:8 and 8:9 are 1K-only at the provider. VdoBloom's service lowers the resolution to 1K for those ratios instead of failing the job, so pick one of the nine standard ratios if you need 2K or 4K.
- Need 2K or 4K? Use auto, 1:1, 3:2, 2:3, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9, 9:16 or 21:9.
- Using 27:16, 16:27, 9:8 or 8:9? Expect a 1K image.
- Need 5:4 or 4:5? Those are on GPT Image 2, not 2.5; the provider rejects them for 2.5.
Where to run GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst on VdoBloom
Sunburst is listed under its own name in the model pickers; the 3/5/8 credit ladder is the same everywhere.
- Image Generator (dashboard, Images, Generate): pick GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, write the prompt, choose the ratio and resolution. The cost updates as you change resolution.
- Image Editor: GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst I2I edits with up to 16 reference images at the same prices.
- Studio: the Sunburst I2I model is available there with its 16-image reference limit.
Prompting Sunburst
Treat the 20,000-character cap as room for a precise brief. Lead with the subject and its action, then the layout (what is where, how many, what size), the lighting and the palette. For on-image text, quote the exact words and say where they sit. Because Flare and Sunburst take identical inputs, you can paste the same prompt into both and keep the better result at no extra cost.
Draft at 1K for 3 credits until the composition is right, then re-run once at 2K or 4K. If a result looks soft, check that the ratio was not one of the four 1K-only ratios before blaming the prompt.
Limits and honest caveats
Sunburst carries VdoBloom's STRICT label, so OpenAI's filter declines more prompts involving real people, violence or sexual content than HOT-labelled models do. Four ratios are held to 1K. The 5:4 and 4:5 ratios available on GPT Image 2 are not accepted for 2.5. The provider also documents a transparent-background option for 2.5, but VdoBloom's interface does not offer it for this model today. This page takes no reference images (use the I2I model for edits). And it is a proprietary hosted model, so if the provider fails a job, the credits come back automatically.
VdoBloom does not rank Sunburst against Flare on quality. Both cost the same, so a 3-credit test of each on your own prompt is the fastest way to decide.
What creators use GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst for
- Final renders of a prompt you drafted on Flare or at 1K, at the same price per resolution.
- Posters, packaging comps and social cards with exact on-image text and a specified layout.
- 4K squares (1:1 at 4K is allowed on 2.5, unlike GPT Image 2).
- Unusual frames such as 27:16 or 9:8 at 1K without a rejected job.
How to use GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst on VdoBloom
- 1Open the Text to Image tool and select GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst.
- 2Write your prompt.

Frequently asked questions
Is GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst free?
For a few images. New VdoBloom accounts get 10 free credits, which covers three 1K Sunburst images, two at 2K or one at 4K. There is no daily free allowance after that; a one-time 300-credit pack is $19.50 and never expires.
How much does GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst cost?
3 credits at 1K, 5 at 2K and 8 at 4K per image, or $0.15, $0.25 and $0.40 at the Lite rate of $0.05 a credit. The aspect ratio does not change the price.
Is Sunburst more expensive than Flare?
No. VdoBloom's credit table prices both variants identically at every resolution, for both text-to-image and editing. Sunburst trades latency for precision, not price.
GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst vs Flare: which should I use?
VdoBloom's service describes Flare as the fast default and Sunburst as the precision variant. They take the same inputs and cost the same, so run your prompt on both at 1K (3 credits each) and keep the one you prefer. VdoBloom does not publish a quality ranking between them.
Can GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst make 4K images?
Yes, at 8 credits, including 1:1 squares. The only exception is the four 1K-only ratios (27:16, 16:27, 9:8 and 8:9), where VdoBloom lowers the resolution to 1K instead of failing the job.
What aspect ratios does Sunburst support?
Thirteen: auto, 1:1, 3:2, 2:3, 4:3, 3:4, 16:9, 9:16, 21:9, 27:16, 16:27, 9:8 and 8:9. The provider's live API rejects 5:4, 4:5, 2:1, 1:2, 3:1, 1:3 and 9:21 for 2.5, so VdoBloom does not offer them.
GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst vs GPT Image 2: what improved?
Same price (3/5/8 credits). Sunburst renders 1:1 at 4K, does not force 1K when the ratio is auto, adds four unusual ratios, and its editor takes 16 reference images instead of GPT Image 2's 10. GPT Image 2 keeps 5:4 and 4:5, which 2.5 does not accept.
When was GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst released?
8 September 2026, together with the Flare variant. VdoBloom added both, each with a text-to-image and an image-to-image model.
Is GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst censored?
It carries VdoBloom's STRICT label, the platform's tightest content tier, because OpenAI's provider-side filter is on. Prompts about real people, graphic violence or sexual content are more likely to be declined than on HOT-labelled models.
Do I need an OpenAI account to use Sunburst?
No. VdoBloom runs it through its own provider integration; you pick it in the Image Generator and pay in VdoBloom credits.
